This Part Fixed My Brake Lights on 95 Silverado K1500
This part fixed my brake light failure on my 95 K1500. The problem is the keeper that holds the part in place was very difficult to remove and even harder to reinstall. The problem is the way GM engineered this vehicle, you can't get your fingers up in the area underneath the dash to work on it. I watched all the videos I could find on fixing this and nothing worked. What did work was after prying off the clip with a screw driver, I was able press the clip back on by holding in place with a couple of fingers on one side and then using the perfect sized bent screw driver to press a 15mm socket over the square clip from the other side.

Worked great direct replacement.

Fixed intermittent lights. Brake lights worked upon pedal press but immediately shut off when pressed further in normal driving. A little tricky to get the clip off to replace this but I am a skilled diyer. I was able to reuse the clip as well.

The Retainer for this can be a pain depending on which one you need.
GM Genuine Parts D1565E Brake Light Switch. You will want to buy this (Dorman Help! 13808 Stop Light Switch Retainer kit) You will need it if yours looks like the pic I added. I had to pry the switch and retainer off the shaft TOGETHER with a flat bar. Disconnect wire connector FIRST. I used .38 caliber brass casing, slide the retainer over the outside of the casing, line it up with retainer shaft and then slide retainer off the casing right onto the retainer shelf. Then I went and committed my self for therapy.

A pain
It’s not the easiest thing to install! Trying to get to the old one not so great. I wasn’t removing the steering column. Scratched my hands a bit. But to install once you get the plug in it’s easy to put back. But the little clip... that’s a duzy. Have fun with that! I gave up for the day. I’ll go back and pop it on later. At least my tail lights work now!

genuine replacement part
Replacing this fixed the issue causing both my brake lights and cruise control to not work. GM put the switch in a place that is a pain to get to when you need to replace it but hopefully it will last for 25 years like the original switch on my truck did.
