Most of these dirt traps are around 12 inches in diameter. However, the bottom diameters of standard-sized buckets like this one usually taper down closer to 9 inches or so at the bottom. After a really long search on Amazon, I found a 9.25 inch diameter dirt trap by the Pro-Elite brand. This is a good sturdy bucket, and I ended up using it to hang under the filter system for my water filtering system for my house. I have a cotton filter that needs to be replaced every 3 to 4 months and hanging this bucket underneath saves a lot of mess because it is the right size to handle taking out the filter.

Good sturdy bucket

I was tired of having constantly to replace plastic buckets. When the one I had started to show signs of its imminent demise, I started looking for a galvanized steel bucket. I don't know what is going on with buckets this year, but I couldn't find any - steel or plastic - in the local stores, including Walmart, hardware stores, and feed stores. Going online was almost as bad, but I did find these buckets, which looked as if they might be a bit better, plus I was pretty desperate. I ordered two, which arrived from the same place on the same day in two boxes. What gives with that? I've used them daily since receiving them, and they are a lot sturdier than other plastic buckets. The handle is straight at the top, rather than having a slight curve, which means the weight is more evenly distributed. The sides don't collapse inward when the bucket is picked up. The entire construction appears stronger. They are slightly heavier than "normal" plastic buckets, but if that's a problem for you, you can just be careful about how full they are. The handle is a bit far away from the top of the bucket for my hands. If I'm holding the handle, I can only steady the bucket by holding the pour spout - I can't reach the rim. If you never hold the bucket and the handle at the same time, that won't be a problem. My hands are considered a woman's large for glove purposes. All in all, and with only a short usage time, these appear to be pretty good.

Does what a bucket should do. Sturdy. Spout is good. Easy to see because it's very red.

The bucket is very robust and well made. I think it's going to work fine for my needs. The one I received was missing the handle but they sorted it quickly and I'm satisfied. You might pay a little more for a quality bucket but it's worth it in the end because it's durable.
