Great sponge filters
I use several sizes of these filters with powerheads in a 29-gal planted tank and a 120-gal planted community tank. They are stackable which is nice. The larger sizes are really large; I found I prefer to have stacks of 2 of the smaller sizes in the larger aquarium. This allows more surface area for the plants. These are excellent filters. I use them with power heads and these don't get clogged and collapse when they start getting dirty (when I neglect the weekly maintenance). Some other brands with fine foam will collapse when they clog a bit and are attached to a power head. I will continue to buy these filters as they are cost effective and easy to maintain. Only downside with sponge filters in general is that some of the detritus falls back into the tank when you pull the filters out for cleaning. But when you squeeze them into a bucket of dechlorinated water you see how much stuff they removed so most of it gets stuck in the filters. Highly recommended.

It makes a great prefilter for a canister filter.
I have been fighting trying to find a good prefilter for my canister filter for a while now, it’s custom built, and I have 1 inch hoses. I had a few designs that worked for a while, but each had their own flaws. Most of them would clog after only a day or two. This filter allows me to go between weekly cleanings without clogging or worrying about being too open and sucking up my smaller guys, it has the flow I needed for my pump, and it seems well made. Definitely different from other sponge filters I’ve bought, and I’ve bought and modified several designs. These have a really nice pore size/ratio, are relatively stiff, and in my opinion are generally great prefilters.

The Original Sponge Filter is Still the Best
This is the original design and manufacturer (ATI) of the sponge filter. There are many copycats out there but this one is the best. The PRO version has a new reticulated sponge which provides faster flow and more surface area for bacteria. My suggestion is to always go up one size to make sure you have adequate filtering. For example, if you have a 20 gallon tank don't buy the 20 gallon max model but go up to the next size.

Great sponge filter.
Great filter. Superb quality. The reticulated ( coarse) sponge allows for more flow and better beneficial bacteria and greater time between cleaning. Also made to easily install air stone.

Top sponge filter performs better
This thing clogs too easily

Great filter, the ORIGINAL one, not a knock-off
I have a 6 gallon Betta tank and was looking for a good filter. This works very well. I had to cut down the plastic tube at top (easy to cut, I did it with a kitchen knife!) so that it fit underwater in my 6 gallon tank. I also bought an airstone to put inside to decrease the intensity of the flow. I attached the airstone with a little one inch piece of tubing. This is the ORIGINAL sponge filter, not one of the many Chinese knock offs that you'll find on Amazon and elsewhere.
