Great cassette player for transferring old cassettes to PC
I'm a lawyer and recently started working on a criminal case where the crime occurred in the mid-1990's when everyone was still using cassette tapes. When I got the file, guess what? There were a ton of cassette tapes! Well, I haven't had a cassette tape player in years and I wanted to digitize the tapes so I could listen to them on my computer. So I bought this bad-boy. It's simply a basic cassette player with a radio, It's not stereo, but for my needs that was fine. So I plugged a cord into the headset jack and ran it to the microphone jack in my computer. I used Audacity, an open source program for making and managing recordings on the computer, and copied the tapes that way. Worked perfectly for my needs.I didn't really test out the radio too much, but it did pick up local stations fairly well and the sound is good for a mono speaker.I was really expecting it to be a piece of junk, but I am pleased with this purchase. If you need a basic cassette player, this is one to consider. One more thing, it has a cord for AC use that you can store in the battery compartment. It can also use batteries, It uses 4 D cells.

Good little radio/cassette player
The sound quality is typical of the cassette era. If I had cassettes with music, I would convert them to CD's. I bought it in order to play cassettes with lectures and speeches on them, and I can hear clearly and plainly. For the money and my purposes, it's worth it.

Quality is a hit or miss.
The first one I received is a dud, cassette player constantly ate up tape and sound was off, dragging. Then finally stop working completely after a few days. The replacement is good so far. Cassette player works properly, good sound quality. AM/FM radio works fine. Speaker is definitely not stereo because I think you need at least two of them for stereo. This unit only has one speaker.

Good buy
First one didn't work. Returned it for free through Amazon. Two of the three units I bought don't work with batteries. Other than that, I have no complaints. I've been using the oldest one since February 2016 which lasted until December 2018 when the volume started malfunctioning. Volume sometimes goes way down to where I can't hear it well enough. Just bought another one to replace it - still a good value. Update on the battery issue: you have to install the battery in the lower chamber when it is in a horizontal position. It won't go in if you try to install it at an angle. So there was no problem with the two I mentioned that "don't work with batteries".

I am very disappointed that a brand new item barely worked
I purchased this product because of the many positive reviews Jaras received and my need for a cassette recorder. Unfortunately, I waited too long to return it and to try the cassette recording portion of this devise. The recorder did record but produced a faint, barely audible sound when recording off the radio, nor would it play my tapes which was the primary reason I bought the Jaras product. The radio works well, but that's not why I bought the machine. $10.00 radios work well. I have hundreds of tapes and needed a new cassette tape recorder to play these tapes. Please save your money and keep looking if it's the tape recorder/player you're looking for. I'm surprised that Amazon keeps selling this item, or maybe I was just unlucky. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that a brand new item barely worked. LWP

Does the job well?
I bought this for my kids to listen to old cassettes with. They have went through so many tape players, and I decided to try something different in hopes of it lasting a little longer. It’s had one week of heavy use and still working fine. Sound is clear, and good for a tape player. If it is still working after one year, I will be delighted! Time will tell.

It's as good as I expected for very old technology. I was just happy to find something.
I have a friend with some very old cassettes she could not play, including voice recordings of relatives who had past on. She wanted to be able to listen to them and this player did the job. I wasn't expecting much from very old technology and this wasn't great, but did exceed my expectations and seems to work quite well. While the sound is not great, having lived in the 60s and 70s, it's as good as it was then, so I'm pleased with the product, especially given the low cost. It's a good value and suited my needs.
