Great Price, Great Sparks
These ferro rods suit me just fine. They would be fairly hard ferro rods. Some prefer softer rods saying that they throw a better shower of sparks. I find that they also wear quicker and corrode easier. These rods throw plenty of sparks and start fires just fine. I've used them in damp conditions and they haven't corroded at all. The drilled hole makes it easy to tether them or to put them on a key chain. Excellent value for money.

Use of Ferrocerium Flint
The media could not be loaded. To test I used cotton wool make up pads, torn and fluffed up as no char cloth to hand. (Also tried toilet tissue which needed tearing up much like a mouse would make a nest).Cotton wool bursts into flame after a couple of strokes using the sharp edge of a Stanley knife blade.The rods are coated with varnish of some sort so this needs to be partially removed to allow a clear strike path.Probably best to not use a cardboard box to test.
