Great, inexpensive solution for hiding your equipment
I just installed this last weekend and it was easy and works great! If you want that 'floating TV' look, with no equipment to be seen, this system works well. It is a perfect option for someone not willing to spend the $500-800 for an RF universal remote control and receiver. Setup is a breeze:1. Stick the small receiver on the frame of your TV and running the wire to the red plug on the connecting block2. Plug connecting block into the power outlet3. Run IR Flashers from the yellow ports on the connecting block to your equipment (cable box, Receiver, Blu-Ray, etc) and use included tape to attach to the window right over the IR receiver on the device. The big things you give up using this vs. a medium to high end universal remote control are:1. Having only one remote - this DOES NOT REPLACE any of your existing remotes. If you have 5 remotes to start, you will still have to use them all.2. Since you won't have a universal remote, you won't be able to set up macros to automate commandsI realize this product wasn't designed or made to solve these issues, but I've had people ask me, so figured I'd post it in my review as well. I think this is best for someone with minimal equipment - a TV, cable box and DVD player. Once it gets more complex and you have more than 2 remotes, I would upgrade to a programable universal remote (I love the URC MX-880 and MX-980)

Finally - an extender that actually works!!!!!
This is not my first Remote Extender - I will have to say that after all the other failures - I was skeptical that this one would be anything more than another disappointment - out of the box it looks a lot like the other ones out on the market (except a much better receiver and diagnostic lights on the main box). I plugged it in to test it next to my cabinet that has all my equipment in it and low and behold - it works!!My setup is not so simple - TV above the fireplace, HDMI Cables (3 of them with network and power) all go over to a cabinet behind closed doors - no wires visible at all - everything in the walls - took me a long time get it that way - last piece to the puzzle is the IR Repeater so I can keep the cabinet doors closed. The only reason that it is not getting a 5th star is that the cable for the IR Receiver could have been a little longer as I have to route mine through a wall. Either way it still made it - just had to put everything in a different place than what I expected (about 4 inches away from my 'ideal' location). The receiver is so good and the emitters are so powerful - it works better with the extender than it ever did with the cabinet doors open. No lag at all and all my remotes worked. I have Comcast and a Cisco Receiver and the IR Receiver is right next to my TV - no problems.Love the fact that they put the light on the IR Receiver to let you know that you are getting a signal - additionally the status lights on the main unit - excellent - and even the flashing on the emitters - you know what is going on all the time so there is no question that the system is picking up your signals and transmitting them through.Quick hint on how to find your IR Receiver on your device you are extending to - once you get it all together - power, IR Receiver and plug in a Emitter - take the tape off the emitter so it will 'emit' have someone else push buttons on your remote (of course you need to close the cabinet door some so the remote will not do anything on the system without going through the extender - point it to the extender IR Receiver) then just go along the front of your device with the emitter until you see it start to work - then just push in place.Took me less than 15 minutes (excluding running the IR Receiver down the wall) to get it all going successfully.I am very appreciative that the manufacturer spent the time not to skimp - there are extra emitter sticky pads and extra sticky pads for the IR Receiver. It has only been in operation for a week or so - wanted to do this while it is still fresh in my mind - some other devices have failed in a month so my fingers are crossed but the device looks solid so will see.Would definitely recommend to others - and buy again if I have a need.

Simply the best ir-extender out there, after you customize it a bit for certain devices
I'm not used to writing reviews ... but this item, surely deserves it!I've tried numerous other infrared extenders, none of the which have worked for me really.I have a Samsung 65" plasma, so that might be the reason for other ir-extenders having problem. This one does NOT have problems and I'm glad I finally found this device, because it's excellent!Once you've positioned the IR-receiver on your equipment and blinded the equipment's eye on the exact correct spot, this deviceworks amazingly well ... even better than when I had the doors on the tv-cabinet open so I could see all the equipment. It's doesn't seem to be sensitive to point-of-view at all, it works very very well I must say. No complaints after I finally found the exact location of one of my equipment's IR-receivers eye, which gave me a little bit problems at first. Hands down, the very best IR-extender I've found on the market, totally worth the double of the price compared to similar products. And by the way, it DOES work in Europe ( 220v ) as well as in the States ( 110v ) out of the box - you just have to buy an outlet plug adapter for your wall, e.g. this one:"OREI Grounded Universal 2 in 1 Schuko Plug Adapter", no need to buy a step down ac-adapter to change any voltages.**UPDATE 20th of August, 2016**I was having problems with one of the equipment I was trying to control with the ir extender. It was probably receiving to strong signal from the ir extender, so what I did to solve the problem was releasing the glued ir-receiver from the actual device, and moving it 2 centimeters away ( in front ) from it, using a double tape to glue it onto the actual tv-cabinet's shelf, right in front of the device, instead of onto the device itself, so it doesn't touch the device anymore. Works perfectly now. I attached a photo with this review, to show the setup for this particular device which was having problems.Excellent work Xantech, highly recommended product
