Great pipe, great price!
I purchased this pipe in two colors & love them both. I was hesitant to purchase a pipe not made of briar, but after having smoked this pipe for months, I have not found any negatives to this pipe. I love the vivid colors & shiny finish that remains that way even after use. The bowl cover is a nice touch, though I do wish it was brass like the other fittings on the pipe rather than silver. The pipe smokes very well & came with a removable metal stinger pipe filter, which was surprising. Due to its flat bowl, it sits upright on the table. These are great pipes & the price is even better! I purchased this pipe in Mahogany rustic & green. I do wish Amazon would get the gorgeous yellow color that this pipe comes in, as I would purchase it immediately!

Nice short smoking pipe for the price
I have had this pipe for a month. I have smoked pipes for over 50 years and can say it is a good pipe and smokes well. It is not an expensive pipe but it is a good pipe for short smokes. I have read the reviews that the pipe cracks and the stems break but I have to say if you don't let it heat up and don't pack it tight it give you a great smoke. Pull the stem when its cool. The idea is to smoke it lightly and fill it 3/4 of the way. Clean it often and remember it is delicate. Great pipe for sitting around when you just want a 20 min smoke. I don't use a blow touch lighter on this one and you have to relight every once in a while. For the price you cant go wrong. You just have to remember that this is a pear wood pipe and as long as you don't let it heat up too hot you will never crack the bowl. Be careful pulling out the stem and opening and closing the lid and you will enjoy a long lasting pipe. The only thing I would say is that the band is gold and the top is silver. They should have matched the two. Other than that, I am thinking of buying a different color just to switch them out. Every time I smoke this pipe it smokes right to the end with minimal spit back. I would not recommend this pipe for a first time pipe smoker because you need to understand how pipes function and how to take care of them. It is delicate and I have to say it does not give me a bit towards the end.For those of you that smoke pipes and are looking for a good inexpensive pipe for a good smoke, I would say this pipe would be for you. I was hesitate about buying this pipe because of the reviews about cracking and braking, but I am glad I did. It is my end of the night pipe.

Like the Polish Dr. Grabow
I'm less than a decade into pipe smoking and collecting, and I'm in the "hey let's check this out" phase. That's a preface to this review. My understanding from discussions is that Mr. Brog is like the Polish Dr. Grabow. Meaning, it's a good pipe for a low price with no frills. And that is what my experience reflects. This particular pipe is a sort of a pearish shape, but it sits! I've become a fan of sitters. The bowl is narrower than an average Dr. Grabow, but is quite deep. It holds a decent amount of tobacco, but I think the narrowness means it goes out more often. This isn't a big deal: your pipe will always go out. But it does mean as it gets lower, it's harder to light. I generally use a pipe zippo, but I found matches were required for this pipe. I chose the rusticated finish. It looks cool, but the greater surface area means heat dissipates faster in case you smoke fast or your tobacco is burning hot.The pipe is pearwood, which is seriously underrated...with a caveat. I've read reviews of horrible pearwood from Ukraine, but no complaints about Mr Brog's presumably Polish-grown wood. Also, like briar, it's the root and not the wood from the tree proper, so don't think you're buying something carved from a 2x4.The metal wind cap is cool. I work on an island in a harbor, and restricting how much wind can whip through the pipe is wonderful. Having it organic to the pipe--affixed with tacks--is preferable to add-on caps which are pressed into the bowl and held in place by friction alone.Part of why I bought it is the military stem (they refer to it as an "army", but it's the same idea). It literally just means that a tapered stem inserts into the shank plainly, generally with a metal socket to provide strength, as opposed to a straight mortise and tenon setup. The style is meant to evoke images of simple soldier styles--it can be disassembled and jammed into a pocket without worrying about breaking anything--and ad-hoc repair jobs. I like the style. The pipe doesn't fit a normal paper and charcoal filter of any size, instead it uses a stinger filter. It's a little metal bit that fits into the end of the stem and makes air flow around more surface area, presumably allowing the greater surface area plus the temperature differential to condense moisture. I generally let my tobacco air dry a bit before smoking, and that drastically reduces tongue bite on it's own. And I've only been annoyed by a stinger making a good draw more difficult. I've heard if you smoke a lot, you can get a cool gurgling sound from it, but I've not noticed. So while I like filters in general, I pull stingers out and deal with slightly wetter smoke.Anyway, many people will have many different things to say about it, but 4/5.

Very impressed
Bought this pipe after seeing a review of another Mr Brog pipe. Liked the look of this, the reviews seemed ok. And it’s 20 dollars so why not1. Bowl is bigger than the reviews make it seem. Add my normal amount of tobacco. And get normal smokes2. You’re not going to be staring at any grain. Finish completely covers, but it has a nice 2 level effect going on3. Sure. Stem is not the greatest. But it’s a lot more durable than the stem on cobs.4. Wind guard is solid, straight and a nice positive click.5. Removed filter and can get a pipe cleaner though. If that’s important to you6. The “army mount” looks nice, but I wouldn’t use this with reckless abandon. Treat it like a normal pipe. Twist to remove, you should be all set.7. If you hate the fact the guard is a different color than the mount, can’t help you there. It does look odd, but a good odd8. Great draw. Bowl or guard does not get too hot. Tasted the pear wood a few bowls longer than a new briar, but smokes clean to the bottomIf you are looking for a carry around pipe, a dedicated pipe for Lakeland’s, or just another less expensive pipe for the rotation, I cannot recommend this higher. If you have someone who is trying to get into the hobby. Stop recommending Cobs and point them this direction
