In the middle it's 3 3/4 inches to the bottom, the hook adds another 4 1/2 inches. Of course, if you are worried about the slope, as you extend the sides, the slope lessens. I don't know why you are asking this - maybe to keep whatever you hang off the floor of the closet or perhaps, you only have a limited space between shelves, so if this does not answer your question, ask again.
