A perfect violin for a beginner or an intermidiate violinist.
There isn't anything to dislike regarding this violin. I mean it's not an Amati ($600,000.00) or a Stradivarious (10 to 20 million) but for a hundred bucks it can't be beat! I'm serious. Eventually, you may want a better shoulder rest and a better bow but for a beginner this violin set will do. And I really like the case and the inside coverings. What a beautiful looking violin. I love the finish which has a darker, deeper brownish hue. You will be happy and proud to show and play this violin either alone or in an orchestra. This is the one to buy. You won't regret it. And this violin comes with 4-fine tuners! Oh, and when you do buy this violin, get an extra set of strings. You never know about that thin 'E' string! :)~

Initial impressions
Let me start off this review by saying that I have a little more than 12 years experience playing the violin. Every other review on here that I've read seem to have been written by people with no experience with the violin or students just starting. I will put a disclaimer on this review in that I have never owned a good violin before, they have all been beginner violins or shoddy second hand violins (though I have experience with high quality violins), so, it is quite possible my perception of this violin is biased. My main concerns with this violin when purchasing it were the pegs, the tailpiece, the varnish, how it plays in third position, the bridge, and overall quality of workmanship in the violin itself. The pegs pictured seemed to be of very poor quality and almost worthless, I can say that my initial impression from the picture was quite wrong but I don't think it would be out of the question to upgrade them later on. They are not the best pegs I have ever seen or used but they are certainly passable. The tailpiece I would say more or less met my expectations (in that it is not the greatest but it does not seem to be an issue at all with the instrument). I intend on upgrading the tail piece soon but it is not dire. The varnish on the violin is pretty good, it exceeded my hopes for this instrument, but again, it is not quite to the level of other violins I have played on (but these were violins that cost thousands of dollars). The higher tones and third position play wonderfully on this violin and far far exceeded my expectations. The tone on the violin all around is wonderful. The bridge is not a problem in the least and the workmanship on it is well above standard for the price you'll pay. I was not too concerned about the bows because I had ordered a new one for it anyways but I have to say that the bows that came with it were much better than I had expected.Overall I would say that this violin could easily match the quality of the other violins in the suggested price (which I believe was about $1,200) and it is wonderful that it only costs $500. The unnecessary adjustments for the tailpiece and the pegs will still leave you with a fantastic violin that's worth much more than you'll pay for it. On a final note, I would like to say that I've only had this instrument for a day and if my opinion of it changes anytime soon I will update but at the moment I am very very happy with it.

Serious first time voilin buyers
Read if this if it's your first time buying a voilin or serious about learning.First of all, I did the extensive amount of research to save you guys some time. Please don't buy beginner bundles! You want quality not quantity!...Anyways, this voilin is the best cheapest beginner voilin. Purchase this & a set of "D'Addario Prelude Violin String Set" $16.00 Yea i know its pricey for a set of strings. But it's still cheaper than $500 that's for sure. There is no point in buying this voilin by itself , I guarantee you the strings will be broken straight out the box or within 2 hours. You can make do with the Stock bow & cheap rosin it comes with...if you wanna go all out you can purchase a good $20 bow & rosin (do your research on which kind).....The case it comes with is black, and the inside is a velvet beige. It has a small key to open & close. One thing you can't avoid, comes with ALL voilin is that you have to fix your pegs! Since it's wood, the climate changes the shape of the pegs overtime, but don't worry, my bf managed to fix it himself in 2 min with tutorials online. Now this was a gift for him, so I had to make sure it was good because he is really picky. He puts time into reading "how to learn voilin" books. He's reading about all the components...he downloaded free books of the web....so no need to buy all that....& yes you need to study for hours, what a shocker...It's been a week & he played me "happy bday" & it's not even my day. So I'm a happy customer... :)

OK
The color of the instrument is not much like the pictures, much lighter coloured. It's also much more shiny/shellaced then I would expect for a varnish. The pegs hold their position pretty good. You'll need new strings of a higher quality (typical of this type of violin) and probably a new bridge too. The bridge they sent was super thick. I bought a thinner one. The bow they sent is also not the best.

but so far I am fully satisfied with my purchase
I am a beginner and have only had it for a few days, but so far I am fully satisfied with my purchase. I looks beautiful and sounds great. It comes with everything listed. For the most part it was in tune. I had to tighten the strings a bit (which is expected and easy to do with the fine tuners), but other than that is already set up and ready to play. The rosin does a great job with the bow as well. I am not a fan of the shoulder rest that it came with, but being a beginner I may not have it properly adjusted. I honestly didn't mess with it for too long, because I was excited to actually play. I just decided to not use the shoulder rest, which it is still comfortable without it, so no loss there. It isn't mentioned anywhere in the description, but the case comes with a key so you can lock it. That isn't a major deal, but for those that have small children running around it could come in handy to prevent anyone from handling the violin without permission and possibly damaging it. This was a great buy and I am in no way disappointed.
