Ideal for toddlers
Has stood the test of time! My children loved this series of books, now my grand-daughter is loving them too.Beautifully written to get the attention of a toddler, lots of repetition, which this age loves. Lots of gorgeous illustrations with brilliant action in them.We will slowly get the whole series, including ScarFace Claw, who all the dogs are terrified of....

LOVE this book.
My daughter is now 17. Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy was one of the first books that was gifted to her when the was very small. It became a firm favourite. She loved it and we loved reading it to her. I then bought the bag set which were also great. I recently bought two of these for neighbours with small children. Just a beautiful book, gorgeous artwork and fun.Highly recommend.

One of my favourites
I live Lynley Dodd’s books. When I’m reading to babies and children I love rhythm and rhymes. This book is a classic and never disappoints.

Both an engaging book- and one that helps your child's language development
This children's book is an utter delight and I'm beyond confused that it isn't a huge sensation in American like it apparently is in the rest of the world where Hairy Maclary is as identifiable (and marketable!) as The Very Hungry Caterpillar or Madeline. This is the first book in a series of children's books about animals. The illustrations are delightful and fun; the story is told in a rollicking bouncy rhythmic poetry form. My favorite part though is that the animals aren't anthropomorphic at all. They are dogs that act like dogs and think doggy thoughts. My 15 month old son loves the rhythm of the words and will say "woof woof" as he looks at the pictures of the dogs. The basic story is pretty simple, which makes it great for young toddlers, but that doesn't mean it dumbs things down. This book uses a large vocabulary, which is great to help expose kids to more "rare words" (a technical term, meaning words aht aren't amongst the 10,000 most commonly used words). This in turn really helps their language development and, down the road, their reading abilities.

Good story time book
Makes a good read for the young ones as it rhymes. For the dog lover it is a feast.
