In these times of great Stress, cookbooks are my Escape to Comfort!
It arrived in due time and I bought it at a reduced price in good condition. A delightful and valuable edition from King Arthur I thoroughly enjoy reading and tasting the recipes in my imagination before I attempt the baking. I just wish I could share!

Third cookbook from King Arthur
This is my third cookbook and it is a little different from the other two. Great selection of recipes and some things I have never heard of before. A few recipes are rather large, so that is my only negative. The directions are clear. I tried the Boston Cream pie and it is delicious.

Want to learn more than just recipes?
I got this book as a gift for my husband and it has gotten a LOT of use in our house. It has recipes for just about anything you could ever want. It isn't quite your typical cookbook in that it doesn't focus as much on the recipes so much as it does on the theory behind them. It will give you a basic recipe and then several variations and explanations for the changes made. This gives you a great understanding of the recipe and why it is put together the way it is and it gives you the tools to go even further in modifying it if you'd like. If you are interested in learning the why behind a recipe as much as the how, this book is an incredible tool for you.

I love this book for overall baking. Lots of good, tested recipes. Great instructions and tips.

Very very useful
I like the way it discusses they "whys" of the baking process and the ways to fiddle with it and what to expect if you do. Milk instead of water (but not with the yeast proofing). Adding eggs to the bread.Anyway, my first attempt was a sweet dough. I took the basic recipe and messed around with it. Ever so tender. It went very nicely with the apples and tons of cinnamon.I would like to have seen a bit of information on using a big mixer with a dough hook instead of sticking strictly with hand kneading (hard to do with broken arm). There's a lot of really useful stuff in here but you won't find advice on a batter for frying shrimp and stuff. If you wanna take up baking - I am quite sure you could do a lot worse. Get the book.I forgot to mention that King Arthur is kind enough to bring us Baking With Julia on PBS. That's important.

best baking cookbook ever
This is the absolute best, most fun, easy to use baking cookbook out there. KAF offers solid, practical baking advice in plain language, with lots of pictures and thorough explanations. You start with a basic recipe for bread, pizza, or muffins, and slowly expand. They explain HOW it works so you understand how to change it or make your own. Everything I've made from this has come out wonderfully. An invaluable resource for every baker from novice to expert.

Loved my own copy - bought this as a gift
I bought this book for myself probably about 10 years ago. It not only had great recipes in it, but it was so much fun to read. This was the first cookbook I ever read cover-to-cover, because it took me on a journey of understanding baking as well as baking history; and was just plain fun to read, too! I think I even quote it to my kids sometimes! I loved it so much, that when I was looking for a good baking book for my daughter for Christmas, this was the very first thing that came to mind!
