Stylised, fast-paced teen romance
Baby driver has long been on my ‘to watch list’. At some stage it was available through our streaming providers. But missed that, so while facing a drought of new series and movies, I decided to buy it in HD on Prime and did not regret it at all. Also I’m glad to have a copy available in my library for future viewings by the children or guests. The main character, Baby is a laidback youth with an innocent charm. He is a getaway driver that times his driving moves to his iPod songs. His distressing backstory and motivations are gradually revealed as the story progresses. He mixes with seasoned criminals that work for Doc, the mastermind, who somehow has a hold over Baby.Baby Driver is fairly fresh and original movie, it is stylistic fast-paced and attractive viewing enhanced by the songs and soundtrack. This compensates for the narrative, flat characters and somewhat unappealing, and predictable storyline. It’s a bit of a lighthearted alternative to the typical hardcore gangster movies, with a carefree youth romance wrapped up in it. The whole concept, the style and the action leaves a slick impression it sis enjoyable viewing. Yet, it also distracts given the lack of realism in some of the assumptions, the car chase action and character choices. For example Baby’s girlfriend does not question his criminal involvement nor is she moved by the bloody consequences of their choices.Even so it is a great diversion from the typical suspense, gangster and car chase movies. And it is mostly an exhilarating movie to enjoy.

A devil behind the wheel
An absolutely sublime film. Visuals, action, acting, storyline, actual character development so you care about what happens, love, passion, stunts…. But the music… oh my god… the choices of songs and the way they are woven into the scenes. This film uses music in a way that few other films ever do… it is a living, breathing character in it’s own right.Watch the opening sequence…yeah, there is action and excitement… but then watch the coffee buying scene and just drink it in. The music, the movement, the timing… and then rewind and watch it again to catch all the graffiti, the signs, the incorporated sounds of city life, all built into the very best choreographed opening sequence I have ever seen. This film is beautiful. To the eyes and ears and heart and mind. It’s a joyous, romantic, dramatic action-filled musical rollercoaster.Watch it. You are going to love it.

A Must See Film With An Incredible Soundtrack
Incredible film which is fast-paced, energetic and thoroughly entertaining to watch. Although the film's story is good, it is the musical score and how that blends in with the action which is great to watch. The section near the beginning where Baby collects the coffee really sums up how the film feels and although some bits are too overly choreographed to music (like some of the gun play) it doesn't detract from the overall effect of the film. You don't have to think too hard either, which is a bonus! Just sit back and enjoy the incredible set pieces blended together with a great score.

Great film, well filmed with a great cast
One of the best Driving films ever, filmed with a great sound track that's matched to the action and movement. My second favourite Driving film only bettered by " Ryan Gosling Driver "..But a solid 8/10.

One long music action video (if you like that sort of thing)
I was told by several people that this was an amazing film (visuals and soundscape mix) but by the end felt I was just one long music video I had watched. With endless snappy edit cutting especially the heists and car chases (think Bourne movie style) and music soundtrack rather than sound production mix it moves at a fair pace but has little rhythm to the story. The attempts at drama and story line are pretty poor and more about keeping the action pumped up. The characters end up being highly wired caricatures or having little depth and context, as proven especially by the Spacey character. The best compliment that I can muster is that it is better than many of the Fast & Furious franchise I have seenI can understand why the film proved so popular given it actually seemed like a pumped up remake of many 70s road movies I used to watch as a youth in the cinema with more than a passing nod to Tarantino. So if you just want to chill out to a marginally better action movie this will be fine, just don't expect much beyond that.
