Very Quiet / Excellent Quality / Easy Installation / Works Great !
I'm remodeling 3-bathrooms. This replacement fan is excellent quality and installs easily. A ceiling 'STUD' is required for the Good Bracket to be Mounted to. Use the recommended '4' screws. Good Instructions. The fan motor is very quiet. I hooked electrical as per easy directions [always turn off BREAKER first] and installed a Countdown Timer Wall switch too. Simply works great ! High Quality Product.

Very nice for the price!
At first, after reading the installation instructions, I thought now I see what all the other reviewers are talking about. It didn't seem like mounting it the way the instructions said could possibly work. I thought I would follow the instructions and find out. I had to cut the opening in the ceiling slightly larger from the 20 year old fan I was replacing. I cut the opening the size of the fan housing being a nice close fit. After screwing the mounting bracket to the ceiling joist, I inserted the exhaust port on the fan up over the ceiling and the fan slid up into the bracket and snapped into place. It works if you just follow the instructions! An added plus is the reasonable price and how very quiet this fan is. My wife commented that she hardly noticed it being on the first time she used it, and after showering on a cold night, there wasn't any steam in the bathroom or moisture on the mirror. My old fan was 80 cfm and this one is 70 cfm but it does a far better job than the old one with less than half the noise. I just hope it will last a very long time.

Good quiet fan but a bear to install
I am writing this review with the understanding that my circumstances would probably be different from others. I replaced an old fan (which happened to be over the toilet). It was necessary to enlarge the opening. That was not a problem. There are two issues that I have with this unit. The clip that holds the fan was very difficult to secure because it would hold the actual unit at an angle. I had to shim the top part of the clip in order to hold the unit more level. This was not a problem with my previous fan so I am guessing that it is an issue with the clip itself and not the bottom of the truss. Once I was able to get the clip situated to work properly, I had to install the fan while in the attic by sliding it into the clip and having someone underneath maneuver it to fit properly. It would be almost impossible (imo) to install the fan through the ceiling without making the opening overly large. The vent attachment clips on the fan extends a few inches past the main fan housing. So, you would have to make one part of your opening larger. You would not have nice square sides. So, having to do much of the work in the attic gets very difficult, to say the least. The design is not the best but it works and is quiet. I have seen better designs and will definitely spend more money on a better unit next time.

Good fan but somewhat tricky installation
I bought this fan to replace a 20-yr old fan (typical cheap fan installed at construction time) that had finally started rattling and broke down..The good news is that the fan is quiet, much quieter than the old one. We can have a normal conversation in the bathroom now!The installation was tricky and cost me quite some sweat and head-scratching... As some reviewers have already pointed out, the theory behind the installation is sound, but unfortunately, it isn't that easy. In existing building with drywall on the ceiling, it is virtually impossible to hook it into the bottom of the bracket and rotate it up to snap it in. That requires a bigger hole than I was willing to cut. I had to take the plastic duct attachment off to create some extra space, and carefully enlarge the hole a tiny bit to let the tabs for the duct attachment go through. Sound complicated, but you'd know immediately what I meant if you saw the fan.In any case, with the hole slightly larger all around (about 1/8" clearance all around), I was able to wiggle the fan in from the bottom, hook it into the bottom of the bracket and snap it up. The rest was simple. I'm not an electrician, but it took me 5 mins for the electricity, 10 mins to attache some new ducting (replace 3" with 4"), and a couple of hours to fit the fan.. Would have gone faster if I had not had to crawl in the attic from one side of the house to the other every time I needed to go up or down..I do not agree that the joist bracket is weak. Yes, you can bend it, but it does not seem weaker than any other bracket to me. Just don't go wild and you'll be fine.In all, it take more than 10 minutes to install, but we're happy with the fan. I WILL order another one, but this time, I'll be prepared better anf it will go faster..

Quiet!
The fan is quiet and dropped-into the bathroom slot very easily. It moves the required air and seems to be working efficiently.

defective
The item I received and the subsequent replacement both had the same issue. The fan would not spin freely due to the blades rubbing against the fan box. It appears that the bracket holding the fan motor is bent incorrectly, causing the fan to be misaligned in relation to the box. I called Air King customer service and was told there is no known issue with the product. They offered to send me a new motor and bracket but I decided to return the item to Amazon instead. It is kind of a shame since the price is good and I did not have too much trouble installing it. Other reviewers have complained about difficulty in installation but I was able to maneuver the unit into an existing ceiling opening without removing the duct collar or widening the opening excessively. Due to the issue stated, the fan would not spin at all when switched on.If you decide to purchase this unit, I suggest you make sure that the fan blades spin freely before installation.
