It is hard to use because it doesn’t easily to pull hair out of the holes. I bought a different brand before but it worked so well. Not this one.

I am old-school and still do my own hair. This cat makes it so easy to pull strands through for highlighting!

I've never had my hair "professionally" colored, streaked/highlighted etc, but I know of some of the "tools of the trade" that are used when people go for certain services at a salon. I've never used a "Highlighting Color Cap" before, and didn't know they were available to the public. I've done some "accent" colors in the "underlayers" of my hair, mainly by tying up the parts that I didn't want the color on, and I even used a plastic bag with a couple holes in it. I saw this and figured it HAS to be easier to use than a plastic bag! PLUS it's REUSABLE!!!It's nice that you can choose where you want the holes. I used the supplied "hook" to test poking a couple holes in areas that I knew I would be utilizing for color. With the way the holes are "molded" and reinforced/outlined, I found it easier to POKE THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE. I'm hoping that also by doing it that way, that since the hair I will be pulling out will be going the same direction and maybe it will come out smoother.The only things that I found awkward or slightly "unfavorable" at first, was the SHAPE of the cap (or maybe it's my head?) and how STICKY the cap feels going on/off.-SHAPE:The shape seems to be more "egg-shaped" with excess space at the top/crown of my head. I tried pulling it onto my head as far as I could but there was still a little space. I'll have to try putting it on different ways to see if I can get it a bit more form-fitted.-STICKY FEEL:It feels a bit "sticky" and pulls hairs a little while putting it on and taking it off. BUT, I realize that you wouldn't necessarily want something that slips around easily while you are trying to strategically and precisely get hair in specific areas pulled through holes and then for the dying, highlighting etc processes. I can deal with a little pulling if it helps the process be more accurate.While I haven't used this yet, (hair not ready for anything) I feel pretty good about this being helpful! I've used a plastic bag before and this HAS to be waaaaaay better!

Holes extremely hard to poke. Cannot do alone and the hook is very small to grab hair out… had to grab 2-3x to get a standard highlight chunk. Do not recommend. Took over an hour to have the hair pulled through and several scalp stabs.
