Q: Would this play sega cartridges (or an everdrive one)?

Just so no one is confused by Joe M's facetious answer: no, this does not take original Sega cartridges, and there never will be an expansion module to let it directly read those cartridges. It reads game files off of internal flash memory or an inserted SD card or USB drive; a number of games come preloaded, and, if you legally own other ROMs and have the means to get them into the Genesis Mini, then you can expand the collection, but you can't plug original cartridges into this device. "Joe M" was flippantly referring to Sega's habit of selling expensive add-on devices for their consoles (such as the Sega CD and 32X modules for the Genesis/MegaDrive). Incidentally, in Japan they have sold non-functioning add-ons that make a Genesis Mini look like it has an attached Sega CD, 32X, or Game Genie, but those were purely decorative and did not accept original cartridges or CDs.

Q: Why is it shipping from amazon japan? i thought it was the na version. its like $21.99 for shipping.

Sega made the decision to have them only come from Japan due to the semiconductor shortages etc.

Not ttue. Amazon US treats Amazon Japan as a third party seller. So if you need a refund when shipping from Japan gets wonky you cant get assistance.

Shipping cost cost because it is being Shipped over seas. That what Japan cost to ship.
