Another excellent Dickens classic
Dickens has described this as his favourite character. And indeed, I liked David Copperfield myself (although my favourite is Mr Pickwick, of Pickwick Papers). The book as a whole is excellent. So many engaging characters, and a superb storyline. I watched the story serialised on BBC tv years ago, and was amazed that Uriah Heap was just as (falsely) grovelling, and Dora just as irritating as in the tv series. But it really is a wonderful book, and well worth reading. I will definitely read it again. Highly recommended.

A timeless pleasure to read
After reading the modern version of David Copperfield (Demon Copperhead) by Kingsolver I wanted to go back to the original tale by Dickens. After so many years I still find it amazingly engaging and beautiful.

A classic you must not miss!
It is a pleasure to read Dickens again! His descriptions of people and places is extrordinary and you can easily dream back to his time. But the format with tiny letters to fit into a paperback is a bit tiresome. Still, I am very happy for the charming oldfashioned illustrations and the very brief explanations kept in this edition. When you read David Copperfield, you realise how tough life was at that time and how spoilt we are, but also how strong a child can be. I strongly recommend a grown-up re-reading or first reading of this outstanding biography.

re-visiting Dickens
Now that I'm working part time and have more leisure, I have more time to read which is something I've wanted to do for many a year. Remembering Dickens from my childhood and with vivid recollections of the televised novels by that giant of authors, I am in the process of reading 'David Copperfield'. What a champion Dickens is! His mastery of the English language is astounding, his grasp of humanity is far reaching and his ability to portray emotion and the vast range of human condition is peerless. His novels are as applicable to us today as they were in the nineteenth century for the simple reason that they help to foster in the reader 'empathy' for those less fortunate than ourselves. That, surely, is a timeless message for all of us if we are to strive to lift the standing of all of humanity to a better place.

A Great Edition
I have purchased the Wordsworth editions of classics previously and as usual have found this one as excellent as the others, with a good introduction and valuable notes on the text. Great value for money.

Beautifully written of good heart.
I liked everything about this book. I cried, I laughed and I was totally absorbed throughout. Dickens is a great writer and to communicate humanity over centuries is a unique talent. This book was wonderful.

A milestone in English Literature
I admit I read David Copperfield because I felt it was essential reading as one of the most venerated works in English Literature, and I understand Dickens' favourite novel. Frankly, I found it a bit of a battle. Many Dickens novels I find lack a strong story line but go from anecdote and incident onwards, reflecting the fact they were published chapter by chapter in weekly magazines. Not my favourite Dickens novel and dragged a bit on me. There are some laughably ridiculous coincidences of characters bumping into each other. Still I managed it through to the end and hence I'm now acquainted at first hand with Wilkins Micawber and Uriah Heep etc. Would I ever re-read it? Definitely not!
