Great ideas for leaders
As I read through this, there were 3 main things that struck me.First. There are plenty of leaders who focus on incremental improvements and make lifestyle choices in running a business. There are a minority that this book is more relevant for, who are looking to transform business and keep it ahead of the others.Second. If I had listed out all the key and important strategies and tools that transformational leaders needed to juggle, then it would be a huge list. This isn't an easy option and leaders who want to do the best need to have a hint of superman about them.Third. If you want to run with the better minority and get ahead, then you really need to be reading or listening to a few books like this every year to see what strategies are developing. A client recently told me that he was changing his management structure so that the team worked in squads rather than silos. It seems to be working. Only on reading this do I learn that Spotify work in squads and my client has seen this and reckoned that they will work for his business as well. He's a smart guy...I received a free pdf of this book from the author.

For those who want to be the next Musk
The book uncritically eulogises the likes of Musk, Bezos, Branson and Jobs. The book examines ‘their mental frameworks, leadership styles, and innovation strategies’ to learn ‘lessons for igniting our own visionary capabilities’.I had hoped that the sub-title ‘THE ART & SCIENCE OF DECISION-MAKING’ would provide a broad and practical discussion to help everyday people approach the dilemmas of decision making. But this book is for those who want to be ‘visionary leaders’ who ‘redefine what’s possible’.The book will appeal to those who want to envision ‘the next leap’ in their industry / ‘humanity’s course’. It encourages expansive thinking and is intolerant of an ‘incremental approach’ and the caution of ‘pragmatic executives’.Thankfully there are, in fact, some words of caution to slow down the ego – about cognitive bias and understanding risk etc.So if you are a person out to change the world this may be a book for you. And good luck to us all – there have been many of those in history and it doesn’t always work out well. As for the book, it just wasn’t what I was hoping for.
