Beautiful book
I started collecting classic books about two/three years now, ranging from Franklin library, Oxford University Press, Easton Press, and Folio Society. I also have many from Harper Collins, which is my fav for reading. This one from Harper Muse is another good classic. For the price, I wasn’t expecting much, but I am indeed surprised that’s it exceeded my expectation. The cover is thick, paper is good quality (not some cheap wax paper), font and its size are good. Binding is good. The ribbon and darkened edges give it a nice touch. And it is rather heavy, too. Very nice! The only thing I’m disappointed about was the way the book was shipped. There’s no cover whatsoever. Someone just put the book straight into a big box, so the book got tossed here and there during transit. So there are few scuffs here and there and some of the corner pages got bend. Other than that, I can recommend this book. Can’t wait to read it.

nice but edges could be better
The cover of this book is great quality but unfortunately my edges do not appear to be fully sprayed, or had some rub off because there's some light colored streaking on them. Lucky for me, mine is only messed up on the bottom of the book so it isn't a big deal. Sprayed edges can be nice but in mass production, tend to lack quality control and (in my experience) often have flaws. I would be less impressed if mine wasn't flawed at the bottom of the book so I removed one star for quality control. The cover looks great and the book is otherwise really pretty!

Gorgeous edition--strange page edge color
All the editions in the Gothic Chronicles Collection are beautifully done. They make wonderful display books and they're all perfectly readable editions as well (with the exception of Dante's Inferno--you'll probably want an edition with comprehensive footnotes). I haven't read The Picture of Dorian Gray, but I'm excited to dive into this wonderfully made book. The only downside to this Gothic Chronicles Collection is the page edges are all different colors, which ruins a bit of the cohesion when they're displayed together. The Picture of Dorian Gray, in particular, has blue page edges while the rest of the collection has a variation of red/orange. The blue looks great on its own with the green gilded cover, but doesn't match the theme throughout the rest of the collection.

What a good read
I only heard of Oscar Wilde from watching the movie The Rock. And that has always led me to read any of Wilde's books. So, I finally added it to my reading list. Wow, where has this book been? Why did it take me so long to read this? Probably one of the best books I've ever read. Wilde carries the words in a way where you don't want to ever stop reading, there is so much humor and amazing use of the English language in his book. There is that one line, ""The real drawback to marriage is that it makes one unselfish. And unselfish people are colorless. They lack individuality." Who comes up with this? At times it can get dark, but I've grown up reading Dante, Shakespeare, and even modern day authors like King who can occasionally get dark, so that's where my spouse and I disagree with this book. Definitely a must read.

Nicer than it appears online
I was very surprised at how nice this book is since it appears fairly plain online. The paper is thick. The print is well spaced and legible. It isn't the microscopic print crammed onto thin paper you get with so many mass marketed books. It feels substantial and valuable. My only issue is that the books don't come boxed or covered so the corners were crushed. Despite that I would consider ordering more.

Cute for a Teen or Tween's Collection ...
This volume reminds me a little of something you might find at a flea market or an old-timey library book sale. It has a bit of a classic, bulk-book feel. Kind of like the books people would buy just to fill their bookshelves. The hardcovers give the volume longevity and a bit of style. The spine is very "old school" and will shine on your child's bookshelf. Furthermore, the sprayed/colored edges are a smoky color ... but it would have been ideal if the sepia interior were that matching smoky color (but it is the same color used throughout this "Gothic Chronicles" collection). There is no forward. This would have been ideal to put Wilde's work in context. Moreover, it would have been beneficial to include some degree of biographical matter since this often shapes the lens through which one may view a work (though, when give too much weight, this can be a problematic approach, of course). The paper-stock is white and the font is large. That can make this an easier read for tweens and teens (but it does inflate the perceived length of the work, which can be a little discouraging for young readers). In total, I think this would be a nice volume for a teen or tween's private collection. It's a lovely looking volume.
