It sucks, really sucking all the air out of the bag nicely.Set up is easy, is just plug and play, nothing to adjust. Is also very compact in size, not bulky at all, great for not taking up too much space on countertop.Operation is easy, 1 button is suck AND seal, 1 button is seal ONLY, 1 button is cancel whatever you doing.Indicating lights so that you know when is done. Can't complain on the ease of use and effectiveness. The whole operation is pretty fast, I didn't really time it but I think it took less than 10sec to vac and seal.Few things to pay attention to.If your bag opening is not line up in the vacume chamber, it will not vacume correctly, all vacume food saver are same on this issue. If you have water/juice/sauce in the bag, some of it might get sucked out during the operation and they will be collected in the vacume chamber, just wipe it with paper towel and is all good. When done, DO NOT lock the lid it might deform or shorten the life of the seal for the vacume chamber (refer to owners manual).Wait 2 minutes before each use? I didn't, I just cut a salmon into 3 pieces then seal it back to back, only down time was putting the salmon in the bag, it works fine, no overheat. It comes with 10 bags, 5 of the 8x12 5 of the 11x12 pre-cut bags. The 8/12 is big enough for at least 80-90% of the work, and the 11 x 12 will be for something like a big rack of meat with bones.I think for now I am going to buy the precut bag for the 8x12 work because is not much a saving in buying a big roll and cut and seal yourself. In rolls, if you cut and seal perfectly(zero waste, almost impossible), you can yield 100 bags at around $0.16.Precut is around $0.26, a whopping $0.1 saving per bag. Just imagine the pain of cut and seal, the $0.1 is not worth saving. For the larger size, 11"x12, I will go for the rolls, is $0.2 per bag if you cut and seal vs $0.38 for a pre-cut/pre-seal.

Great Machine at a Good Price (White unit)
I've had this machine four months now, and have had no issues with it. The machine is quite attractive and doesn't take a lot of counter space. I use it almost every day, so I keep it out. Also, it is not heavy and I find that very helpful.I've had to learn not to have too much liquid in the bag. A little bit will fall in the catch tray. But if there's a lot of liquid, it will spill over and soak into the lower gasket, necessitating a clean-up. That's not difficult.1-Squeeze it in clear water,2-then in mild soapy water,3-then mild vinegar solution,4-clear water again.5-Squeeze one last time with paper towels.6-Hang to dry. Done.Ruined Lower Gasket Tip: If you forget, and leave the soaked lower gasket with food juices in it, it will smell after a while. I did this with tuna water that ran down onto the gasket, and on Day 3, it was bad. I tried the washing routine but gave in and called the Nesco Customer Service about replacing it. Their toll-free number is on the Manual's last page. It cost me just under $10 with shipping and tax. To fix my bad, pretty fair.I read the negative reviews before my purchase, and to be honest, I have had no problems with suction, sealing, or holding seals. The manual is very helpful in learning to use the machine. All machines are a little bit different, and this one is a very good choice, and at a reasonable price. There are two choices available, the black unit with extra features, and the white one, streamlined and simple. I like quick and easy, and I've found the white unit quite satisfactory, especially for first-timers in vacuum sealing.Highly Recommended.

Lid would not close - would not operate - had to return
So disappointing, as it is small and Nesco's larger model with internal bag storage was number one rated by America's Test Kitchen. I like the 150-foot rolls in a separate box so I thought this little machine by Nesco would fill the bill nicely. I do a lot of vacuuming of food for my freezer: blocks of soups and sauces unmolded from loaf pans, six-inch layer cakes and portions of frozen shrimp and IQF fish fillets. The lever broke on my FoodSaver due to being plastic, so I thought the push-to-close mechanism would be a better design (although the FoodSaver lasted 5 years).Well, it did not latch even though I listened for "two clicks" like the directions described. Didn't hear two clicks; it would not seal. When I did HOLD it down and tried to seal a bag, only a very thin seal was the result - half as narrow as I was used to seeing using my old machine.Am taking this to Kohls to return and I have another on the way. Am trying the Fresko hands free model after watching it work in a couple of review videos. There's no mechanical lock that is manually activated, so we shall see.Good luck sealing - but this Nesco model was a bad gamble for me!

Works great, just one thing missing
Sealer has been very reliable, we've used it to freeze two full years' worth of garden produce and many leftovers. Beef and pork smoked over the coals retains 90+% of its flavor for many months after being sealed with the Nesco.I only wish that it had a bag cutter built in. Cutting the heavy rolls of bags at a 90 degree angle is always hit or miss.
