Works perfectly with my M1 Mac Mini
I've been ripping my CDs and finding that my old Apple SuperDrive couldn't read quite a few of them. I decided to try the ASUS SDRW-08U9M-U to see if it was any better.Happy to say it made short work of every one of the CDs my old drive couldn't read - perfect. And it rips CDs way faster too. And it works without a hitch on my M1 Mac mini. No special software or settings required - just plug and play.The only downside is it feels quite lightweight and flimsy, and it's not especially quiet in operation. But seeing as I'm only using it to occasionally rip CDs, I don't really care. For the price it's a steal.

A saviour.
Worked straight out of the box ... no set-up needed.Connecting lead is a little too short and it is a tad noisy, it's not over-powering though.Quickly copied a whole ton of cd's to my hard drive. Some of which had begun to deteriorate but it coped with everything. So far, I'm very pleased.

Bought as a replacement
My old, unbranded optical disc drive broke so I bought this as a replacement as it offered good performance at a reasonably price. I have only used it a couple of times so far but I am happy with it. The bundled software is a bonus.

Excellent super drive
The best external super drive. It can read even a badly scratched cd/dvd.

Excellent Drive - reads CDs accurately that my internal (PC) Asus Drive will not
I mainly use my DVD/CD drive to rip CDs into FLAC files on a PC and my old drive started misreading discs.I bought this external drive at the same time as an Asus DRW-24D5MT internal drive. All I can say is the Zen drive will accurately read discs that the internal one will not and so for me this is the main drive I will now use for my music files. Fortunately my CD collection is now all on FLAC and so my use of an optical drive is not as regular as it once was.

Too noisy for watching DVD content.
Nice enough but not good for playing DVD movies. The noise is far too loud and constant. I was led to believe that this was a quiet unit, perhaps for read/write of simple files, but the constant spinning for playing a DVD results in a lot of motor noise. After a while I found it so intrusive I had to stop. The unit is going back for a refund and I am back to trying to find something that works with Mac/Wintel USB 2/3 and M Disc as well as being silent.
