Q: What kind of plastic/rubber is it? Soft but durable like a Kong or hard rigid plastic?

it is a hard and durable type., Not soft at all., My dogs, a sheltie and an austrailan shepard do not like it, Just my results here,

Q: If a dog gets his jaws around it (I have mastiffs) can he crush the ball? I am considering the 10" version.

Our dog loved this ball pushed it around and within 10 min he had punctured it and dented it multiple times. He is an English mastiff of 170lbs. We ordered the 14" . We will be trying g to send it back

Q: What is this about a plug or weak spot?

We apologize for the confusion on our Virtually Indestructible Ball. There is no weak spot on our ball, I cannot explain that comment. One of our vendors did sell a version of the 10" size Virtually Indestructible Ball which has a hole that contains a threaded plug. The purpose of this plug is so that you can remove the plug and fill the ball with water or stones to make it wobble. The inherent problem of course is that a dog can get his teeth around that hole and chew. However, that vendor no longer sells on Amazon. Rest assured the item you buy today on Amazon will be Virtually Indestructible!Our favorite seller is Oliver's Pet Supplies. Q: I think by reading the other reviews it sounds like this ball is NOT for kicking/playing fetch, is this true?

Depends on the size of your dog and their mouth, and which size ball you purchase. We can kick or throw it and our dog can bring it back. It is not our first choice for fetch, we have other balls we use for that. Hope this helps.
