Great Product
I got these years ago from the vet for my sick cat. Decided to get them again as I have an older cat who needs a little heath boost.

Great Product- Important for cats Immunity
I tried to be a cheap charlie and ordered a different lysine feline brand with more chews, for less money: don't do it! The other brands do not have enough Lysine to be helpful to your cat, and mine had to eat 8 times the chews to equal Optixcare.Optixcare has 500 mg of Lysine per chew!!! It has made a noticeable and improved difference in my cat's health and well-being.Yes, the chews are big in size, but I just break them up, there relatively soft, and worth seeing my cats health really improve. 1 to 2 daily depending in your cats weight is all you need.My 2 year old cat has (FHV)-Feline Herpes Virus, which is not curable, but is treatable. Was found as an abandoned stray very ill, with symptoms of runny gooey eyes, coughing and sneezing. Now with general good care, a sensitive stomach diet and the Optixcare (l-lysine), it has improved his quality of life.

the best of the ones i've tried
I have tried all of the lysine treats amazon offers and i think i am sticking with this one. there's a pattern that my sweet but runny eyed cat displays (he was exposed to feline herpes as a kitten and one eye frequently weeps, gets red, irritated and crusty...lysine helps and is a lot better for him than the steroids the vet would otherwise prescribe)...elroy loves treats and will eat any lyscine treat initially, but then gets turned off and fights eating them. (though he never tires of the kitty crack treats you get at the store, like temptations)...but this one, being the highest dose treat, works the best. right now, he is still eating them voluntarily most of the time and because of the high dosage only needs to eat one (maintenance) or two (actively runny eye) a day. i break them in half and sometimes mix them with the treats he loves and he eats them. sometimes he turns his nose up (gives it the paw shake that means, take it away) and i break them in half and gently push them in his mouth while holding his head up. since i sometimes have to do this, being able to do it once (instead of multiple times with other treats) works best for us. he is still eating these voluntarily most of the time, which is longer than with the other treats. so think we are switching for good. lysine does work -- it stops my human cold sores when they are still developing...helps elroy's runny eye...and boosts both our immune systems. (i take HUMAN L-lysine from the drug store. the treat aren't THAT temping. ) so if your cat is on a lysine regime...i recommend these for taste, tolerance, and the high dosage.

Cats hate it
My cats hate the taste and smell. They’re also really large for a cat, so I have to break it down each time I give (or try to) it to them.

... with the herpes virus that at times can get pretty bad in her eyes
I have one cat with the herpes virus that at times can get pretty bad in her eyes. I've tried other treats that no one liked, were hard, and didn't have enough lysine. I'd been adding powdered lysine to the shared bowl of dried food, but the dosage was uncontrolled. Tried to mix with water and give in a syringe, but that's so very messy! These are about the size of two nickles stacked on top of each other, and are a very chewy soft texture. I broke one up into three pieces, and at first she showed no response. They really have little smell and at first my cat paid no attention. I put it done, and after a bit she ate the first piece and asked for another! I'm so happy to finally be able to give her a measured dose of what is the only treatment available. I know when I stayed on top of giving her the syringe of lysine by mouth she did better, it just isn't a viable optionCats are have very different tastes, but if you have one with herpes outbreaks of eyes, nose and respiratory these are 500 gram in one chew. My vet suggests 1000 daily during flareups and 500 maintenenceIf your cat doesn't like them please find a shelter and donate them

My cats don't like it. Update: item received is too old
Update: After I submitted the review about how my cat didn't like the taste of last package. I went back and looked at the bag and saw that it almost expired. I got this on Oct 20, it has expiration date Dec 9. So no, I'll not be ordering any of supplements for my cats online anymore since I can't be sure what I am getting are not old products.I've gotten this item a few times. What I've discovered is sometimes my cats would refuse to eat it. I believe occasionally I may have received a bad batch that has different smell or texture that the cats dislike. I'll be looking for new brand that has consistent quality control.

Great supplement for my herpes kitty
We adopted Wallace just over two months ago and in the time we've had him, he has had three eye infections (runny, goopy eyes). The first he came with and the third occurred when he was being boarded. The vet prescribed eye drops for the first and third infection and penicillin for the second. After the third, I asked about using L-Lysine supplements and he said to give it a try and to give him either 250 mg or 500 mg.Within 12 hours after his first dose, Wallace's eye looked better than it had with 5 days of eye drops. I stopped giving him the drops but did give him the supplements and within 2 days, his eyes were completely clear.I decided to go with this chew because I could get the 500 mg in a single chew, rather than up to 6 chews, like some of the other supplements. Wallace eats the chew every morning right after he gets his morning canned food and he just gobbles it down. They are pretty big, though...probably about the size of my thumbnail. If I was giving these to my other cat, I would probably have problems but Wallace is one of those cats who eats everything (even if he shouldn't).Edited February, 2013We've reduced Wallace's dose of the chews from a full chew daily to a half. In the year-plus that we've been giving him these chews, he has not had a single eye issue, even when we boarded him. Highly recommend.
