Simply lovely!
Lovely aroma greets you when you open the bag. flower like smells come out even before grinding. The bag has an expiry date on it, May 2022 it reads. Not sure how fresh these are....With the voucher discount this is great value but without the discount it is an expensive one as a kilo bag.I am familiar with Ethiopian beans. My Espresso attempt had loads of crema so i assume this bag is pretty freshly roasted. I tried 1:3 ratio at 93C in 24 seconds and the aromas that came out of the resulting black Americano is on par with Unions single Yayu forest/ natural spirit. I feel I need to try 1:2.5 ratio next time as it tastes a little over extracted, hiding the sweet/citrusy notes. In the beginning of the cup caramel chocolate notes greet you! Mid point onwards through the cup citrus notes kick in. I also feel contrary to what the bag suggest (light roast) this is almost a medium roast. I tried these as Turkish coffee (IMO that never lies) and this is a well balanced and a very aromatic roast. All in all a very promising bag of beans to play with and enjoy over dark winter months awaiting us.

was my daily cup
The first time I bought these beans they blew my mind/taste buds. I'd never had a lighter roast before. The smell of lime was very distinctive while making a pour over brew and the coffee was refreshing and delicious. When I made an espresso that's when the sharp raspberry note really came to the fore. Really great, eye opening beans for me.. I only make one cup a day, two on weekends so by the time I got half way through the bag the fruit notes had waned somewhat but the coffee was still very nice to drink.I have ordered these beans about 5 times now and always enjoy them but unfortunately have never been hit with quite as zesty-a-lime and berry tastes as that first time, but still very much enjoy the coffee.Sadly, what prompted me to write this review was the price. I'm pretty sure I was buying these for £20 give or take a quid. I know its the time we live in and no fault of the roasters that prices are rising across the board, I wish them all the best, but for me that hike has ended my brief affair with these beans :(As I Side note to Amazon I have seen my coffee rise in price, bath salts too, and whisky is going up by £20-£30 a bottle believe it or not. Absolute extortion! A typical basket price on here has risen so much with multiple items. Surely Amazon can help sellers with this as it can't be good for Amazon. I fear for the seller's. My custom has decreased dramatically compared to recent years, surely I'm not the only one, and Amazon should be concerned.

Excellent single varietal for filter or espresso
I find the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (100% Arabica) beans, which are lightly roasted, suit my brewing techniques and give a lovely rounded flavour in both "clever dripper" (steeping filter) and espresso machine. My only gripe is that the roasters give a "use by" date and not the date of roasting - which, really, all third wave coffee suppliers ought to do. So, in one six-week period, I've had a bag with use by July 2022 and one use by Feb 2023 which would imply that the July 2022 bag could be up to nine months old! Although, to be fair, it tastes fine.

Previously brilliant. This bag, not so much.
I've bought these multiple times. The Ethiopian coffee is usually very good, but my recent purchase has been disappointing. Not sure if this bag is older/roasted differently or something but the coffee has been a bit sour and the beans aren't as uniformly coloured, nor do they smell as good as they have previously.

Very distinctive and fresh-tasting coffee
Had to look for an alterative to Booth's Yirgacheffe that was no longer in stock and found this. Perfect match. Fine example of this type of coffee and great value. Very distinctive and fresh-tasting.
