Amazing for a Workout!
Here is a story about my experience with Acetyl L-Carnitine for my workout regiment. It's worth the read if you're considering it for more than just neurological help. I hope you get though it!Several months ago I started a workout routine that involves me going to a rock climbing gym for hours at time. The biggest problem I encountered was hitting a wall after an hour and a half or so and unable to really push myself further. I talked to my brother, who has been a major body builder for years, and he recommended this product. I was skeptical as I've tried many other supplements in the past, even ones that cause rushes of energy, and nothing really got me past the wall. The energy ones were nice too, but, rushes of energy or not, my hands and body were unable to support the constant push of strength that rock climbing requires.I ordered this Acetyl L-Carnitine mainly because it's not only inexpensive compared to some other brands, it's made by Jarrow, who's name I recognize as being top-tiered according to a lot of reading I've done, and they're capsules not tablets. I know Acetyl L-Carnitine has quite a benefit if taking daily, but I'm not necessarily after all the benefits it provides since it can get expensive.I take two capsules, 1000mgs, and a protein bar before I leave for the rock gym. I think it's good to mention I've always had a good quality protein bar before I go to the gym so the energy from it kicks in about an hour after I get there making it so I can push a bit harder for a bit longer. The first time I took these tablets after that hour and a half mark I just felt good... a bit fatigued from the constant push, but otherwise my muscles responded well. I went hard for three hours that day and couldn't figure out why, or how. I didn't think such a supplement capable of that so I didn't even consider it.The next time I went to the rock gym, two days later, I failed to take this supplement since I wasn't really in the habit of taking it yet. I had a very hard time at the rock gym that day. I crashed into my physical wall like most other times and longed for whatever made my last visit different. I thought about these supplements at that point with dim suspicion that they might have caused it. Two days later I went back to the rock gym and was certain to take the two Acetyl L-Carnitine capsules that time. Shockingly my energy level maintained and I was able to push for hours until my hands were litterly unable to support my weight. Not because of pain or me just being weary, but because my muscles hit their end point and were completely done.I've taken 1000mgs of Acetyl L-Carnitine ever since and have not hit a wall since then. Maybe it's the combination of the protein bar I eat along with the Acetyl L-Carnitine, but, either way, with results like this, I couldn't be happier! I will ALWAYS take this before I go to the rock gym going forward. HIGHLY recommended!

Caution
For my metabolism if I take one at breakfast and one in the afternoon I find that it is difficult for me to sleep but if I take it only in the morning then the effects have worn off by the time I go to bed and that my ability to sleep is not affected. This supplement is too effective so be careful using it.The effect when I take one pill in the morning is to be more energetic early in the day and it wears off (noticeably) in the late afternoon. If I take a second pill in the afternoon it is difficult for me to sleep (others have noted having vivid dreams) so I take only the morning pill and sleep restfully.UPDATE:I have started taking another pill before lunch. The reason is that this supplement is very effective and I have found that the early use of a second pill does not impair ability to sleep.ANOTHER UPDATE:After having to cope with a few days of none, because my bottle of pills ran out, I found that the effect of this supplement (given my body chemistry) was dramatic. I ran out of energy far earlier in the day. Knowing that the effect of doing without this supplement was so dramatic I decided to increase the overall rating. BEWARE THAT IF YOU TAKE THIS SUPPLEMENT LATER IN THE DAY THAT THE EFFECT WILL PROBABLY INCLUDE DISTURBING YOUR SLEEP.btw - i never give a unit 5 stars unless it performs in an outstanding way

Very helpful for workouts, side effect: vivid dreams
I've been taking this product for more than two weeks now. I take 1000 mg on my workout days. I definitely noticed a difference. Normally, if I work out earlier in the day, I usually spend the rest of the day super tired, wanting to go to sleep. If I take this product, however, I am very energetic for the rest of the day. I am also very productive and focused on my studies.However, there are some side effects that I observed. If I take l-carnitine, when I'm not working out, I am a little too alert and I think really fast. The over-alertness creates a mental fog (sort of like an ADD feeling). As a result, I don't take l-carnitine if I'm not working out that day. One other thing I realized is that, my dreams have become very vivid and memorable after taking this product -to the extent that I once got confused if something happened in a dream or reality. The sleep is usually very peaceful and relaxing.Other than that, I'm very happy with this product as a workout supplement. However, I am considering giving it a break for a few days, because of the dream side effect.
