I have a tree that occasionally drops small branches on my roof and I was worried they'd get go down and get stuck somewhere inaccessible in my gutter downspouts or, worse, in the underground drain pipe the downspouts connect to that goes underground all the way out to the curb in the front of my house. A clog would cause issues and would be a pain to unclog. Better to avoid the potential issue by stopping material before it goes down the "drain." While I'd thought about installing the gutter covers (the ones that install across the top of gutters and allow water to drain through while leaves "wash off" the gutter), I don't have that much debris to worry about and wanted a quick/cheap solution. This type of drop-in solution was super-quick (I installed all four in 10min total, and pretty much all of that time was moving the ladder to the next drain). While these were a bit more expensive than others I looked at, these appear to be more sturdy and the mesh sizing was perfect. Too small a mesh and they'd clog easily/often. These worked perfect and I'd recommend them for a quick solution. Note: If you have tons of leaves in your gutter, these or anything similar will almost certainly get clogged at the gutter drain (you'd have to go up and clean the leaves out of the mesh at the drain). For a "tons of leaves" situation, you should probably bite the bullet and get the complete gutter cover type solution.

This gutter leaf/branch blocker is top-notch! So much so, that my Roof/gutter maintenance professional calls these "the Cadillac of Gutter Guards", and LOVES seeing them used. Very sturdy steel wire, made to last. These work perfectly in my gutters and I am super happy with them. As others have noted, these are very stiff and do not bend, so if your downspout opening isn't round, these may not work for you. But it is a fantastic quality product when it fits! Three years installed, and these still look brand new. :-)

These downspout strainers are very heavy and solid. I needed to bend the bottom prongs a bit to fit the downspout well, but it was easy to do by hand. You may need to lift your shingles up slightly to get the strainer in - wait for a warm day when the shingles are soft and pliable. These are much more solid than either plastic strainers or the expanded metal ones with the much smaller diamond openings that are formed from flat sheets of expanded metal. I had tried the expanded metal type when we first bought our home 20+ years ago and they quickly plugged up and need to be cleaned in no time. I later switched to this type years ago and they allow smaller debris to pass through (small stuff that won't clog your downspouts or pipes) but block large leaves and other debris. Yes - you may have to periodically clear them after a heavy drop of leaves or helicopters. Keep in mind the purpose of these strainers is to keep your downspouts and pipes clear - they do not keep your gutters clear (you need to buy gutter guards for that). But with the generous openings, the time between cleanings is greatly extended compared to the expanded metal type. Our old strainers of a similar type were galvanized steel, not stainless, and it was time to replace them. This type was not available from local stores any longer, so I was glad to find them here.

Heavy duty, quality material, and perfect fit for my copper gutters. Look at the dimensions carefully as the heavy duty construction does not allow for any other shape than round. If you have a rectangular down spout opening or the opening is even slightly smaller, this is not for you. If round and of the right diameter then you cannot find a cage of better construction and it works as designed with the small debris passing through while the clogging leaves stay out.

-we had some unrelated plumbing issues, but got us to thinking, we should cover those roof stacks with something so an animal, bird, squirrel, rock, branch, whatever, can't go down there and block us up. These were perfect, the sewer stack pipes were 2.75 inches inner diameter (older 50's home with cast iron stack), and these fit right in securely, one of them (we have 2) i had to bend the bottom tongs out a bit to make it snug, but they were perfect. Then i started thinking, what about the gutters that still run into our sewer plumbing?? Well, using a vise to bend these a bit, they fit right in to the top of our common small-size rectangular (2x3"?) downspouts! Yea, now we're protected against major blockages. I will tell you that when you put them in the vise to bend them you might hear a couple of the welds break, but fear not, the integrity of the strainer is fine, so with a little bending these have several uses. Good strong product.

I had used those thin mesh metal strainers and they would clog in a short period of time. I saw the Steel strainer and(my bad) for not measuring the hole in the gutter. I ordered the 2 inch as 3 inch wasnt available and it was too small for the opening. The seller JOYLIGHT had emailed me before I tried item and explained their refund/replacement policy offering refunds if size was wrong. I initiated a refund online and that was fine but I sent JOYLIGHT an email asking if they could notify me when item would be in stock for the 3 inch strainer. It was unavailable on Amazon site. Joylight replied when it was coming back and I actually received it today 7 days earlier than expected. I had to bend a few pins slightly, but it was a nice tight install and it covered the hole and top of strainer fits below the top of the gutter screen Im using. The quality is very sturdy and I'm hoping this reduces the frequency of getting up on the ladder as water is cascading over gutter when strainer clogs. The company did say you would still have to clean the bottom occasionally, and this is acceptable. Very happy with quality product (so far), great customer support and speedy delivery.

I have 1 downspout that starlings loves to build nests in, in the spring. I decided to look for a guard after dragging the ladder out for the fifth spring in a row. I started to buy the cheaper mesh models until I saw a picture of an actual install where it looked a crushed mess. Like someone had installed it after a fight with their wife. I decided to buy this model because it looked sturdier and it is. It was easy to install, heavy enough it won’t blow out with a small amount of sidewall pressure, and since it’s stainless steel it shouldn’t rust in the gutter. It arrived in a well designed box that protected it from being bent in transit. I don’t normally leave reviews but I felt this one deserved it. Ordering the wrong size must be an issue for some people because they emailed me to confirm the sizing. I had pre measured the opening while cleaning out the starling nest, 2.625”. I had to slightly bend the tips for a snug fit. Great product and caring service.

These gutter guards are made from welded stainless steel and are so far beyond what is available at your local hardware or big box store. They are more costly, but well worth it in my opinion as you won't be going up on the roof to replace them next spring! Actually, they are so well made you might feel guilty upon sticking them outside at the top of each downspout. The aluminum wire mesh ones that are being sold elsewhere quickly clog up allowing moss to grow or water dams to form. The original units in our house where made of plastic and they simply disintegrated over time. Clean out your gutters and then just drop them into the top of each downspout. No tools or hassles needed to use these.
