The New Essential Chronology to Star Wars

Excellent reference book for understanding the history of the Star Wars universe. Do note that this book was released in 2006 and only contains Legends/EU stories created up until that time meaning some information is outdated and incorrect. Otherwise a fantastic book.

This book looks and feels great, and has provided me with some excellent insights into the Expanded Universe of Star Wars, which is exactly what I bought it for. Unfortunately, other than the in-universe writing style and the excellent maps, pictures and artwork, the actual timeline of events and their description can be found elsewhere, whether through wikis (fan and official) or various other sources.This makes a great all-in-one history of the Star Wars Universe from thousands of years before the Republic of old to well after Luke, Han, and Leia's time, but I wouldn't say it's actually "essential" to understanding the Star Wars universe.

I almost never give a 100% review to anything. Movies, Games, books, whatever. THIS is THE essential chronology for Star Wars. Its written like a history book for star wars which I find completely fascinating. As well it has a galaxy map which brings so much insight to events surrounding the lore of star wars. There is nothing I don't like about this book and if there is a more complete chronology out there I would like to know about it.

Very well done, this places all of those stories Ive spent years reading about on wookiepedia into a chronological and organised order so I know what events happened and when. The stuff which occured after the destruction of the Second Death Star is by far some of the coolest ficition in the series.

As a fan of both the Star Wars movies and the expanded universe this book is very helpful on finding where all the major events and books fall. I use it to keep the time line straight on what I'm reading. It is cheap enough so why not give it a shot?

My 12 yr old son LOVES Star Wars. He was thrilled about how accurate the book was (as far as matching the movies). I do believe that maybe it's a little "too old" for him. I believe he will read the book totally in the future. He wants me to buy other similar books.

This is THE book every Star Wars fan needs - even though the EU has been made un-canon now. I love every twist and turn of this sci-fi "history textbook"!

A book about other books, containing the essential plot elements of all the 'official' Star Wars books, graphic novels and films. I've only read occasional books, but it is nice to see them in context. It is good for finding out which parts of the chronology you like to read more on, or to find out what happened to characters you liked. What it falls down on is references for finding out what books are being talked about. There are no references at all in the book, so you face a journey afterwards trying to track down a list of books in chronological order, then trying to match the list with the plots given. Well written, with some periods more interesting than others, but an impressive work.

This is definetly one of the best essential guides and overall one of the best star wars books. It tells every story from the start of the Rakatan Empire and through to the new set of books about Killik insects and are favourite characters. The whole history of the star wars universe is documented in this book with great and fantastic illustrations. Its great for the Star Wars fans like me who haven't read all the books and still want to know all they can. Now you can learn about characters and storylines without having to read for hours on end of dozens of Star Wars novels (but that doesn't mean you shouldn't, their all probably great) I myself have read none of the New Jedi Order books but now know the rough outline of the story the many books follow. Definetley a MUST HAVE for EVERY STAR WARS FAN. Without it you'll be lacking in STAR WARS knowledge so suggest i do you meditate on buying this book otherwise much to learn you will still have.

Vielmehr dient die Chronologie als (gelungene) Zusammenfassung der Ereignisse, die entscheidend für den Verlauf der Geschichte waren.Wer die Bücher oder Comics gelesen, die Spiele (wie KotOR 1+2) gespielt hat, wird oft eine Passage lesen und denken "Ja richtig, so war das gewesen.", da man viele Dinge einfach vergessen hat und sich plötzlich wieder erinnert.Aber auch, wer keine Lust hat, alle Romane zu lesen, Comics zu kaufen, findet an dem Buch seine Freude, denn hier bekommt man das ganze gesammelte Wissen in einem Buch.Einziges Manko, und das sei nochmal extra erwähnt, es ist auf englisch(!). Wer jedoch etwas Übung im Lesen englischer Texte hat (ich schaue gerne mal englisches Fernsehen und lese auch englische Bücher), hat bestimmt keine Problme, da es recht verständlich geschrieben ist ohne viele Fremdwörter (was selten ist bei Science Fiction Büchern).
