What was unexpected about this stand was that it opens completely flat (see attached picture). This makes it less stable. All previous ones I have purchased over the years, in many sizes, always have a mechanism that prevents it from opening past a certain point. This prevents them from splaying open and falling down. It is also much lighter than the other stands that I have, even though they are smaller, which makes it seem less sturdy and less able to support the weight of heavy metal platters.I suspect that they may have made it so that it could open to a full 180 degrees intentionally though, since the ability for it to open as wide as possible also means that it can hold items of many sizes. I put my platter on this one in the china cabinet, and it slid on the glass shelf. To stop that, I put some spongy padding under the "feet" of the stand. So far, it is holding.

I'd never shopped for these easels before. I'd always gotten them from relatives or found them at estate sales. I find them handy and use them often for displaying plates, bowls, framed art, books, etc.—basically anything I want to display vertically on a shelf. So I needed more and came to Amazon. I thought these were just like the ones I already had, but they are flimsier and constructed slightly differently. The backs of the older ones are cut on an angle (like 45° instead of a 90) so these open flat instead of having a built-in stop due to the angle of the cut. Cheaper to make, I'm sure. They still work for many shaped plates, but they are not as sturdy or safe and could fall over more easily.

I really like this. I measured the stand itself and it’s more like 10.25 inches tall. The cookbook I have displayed on it is about 9.25 inches tall and it is perfect! The stand itself is lightweight, but supports the weight of the cookbook just fine (book is just over 150 double-sided pages). I think anything over 200-250 pages would be pushing it. You simple stretch the “legs” of the stand as far in or out as you want it. Simple!Stand has a simple yet elegant style to it and can’t wait to get another cookbook or decorative plate to put on the 2nd stand that comes with this package.

The quality of these stands is pretty good. It definitely gets the job done holding up a giant decorative plate that I got. The plate looks way better on display now. Glad I ordered it!

I am unhappy with these plate holders. The hinges are very loose and the plate holder flops open so as to be sitting flat. I own several other plate holders. These floppy hinges are not the norm, make sitting a plate on the holder difficult, and I’m uncomfortable using them for good glass plates. I’m very disappointed with this purchase.

Not sure why there were some negative reviews but these work perfectly and very sturdy. I have some antique indiana carnival glass hors d'oeuvre plates that are heavy and these have no problem holding them and keeping them stable. I liked them so much, I ordered them again.

A friend wanted something to display special trays, and these fit the bill. Exactly what she wanted at a decent price AND it saved time driving all over town looking for these (especially in the 12" size!)

These plate holders make useful stands for displaying pictures. They can only handle a certain size and weight of picture so don't get ones too small.

One came slightly damaged at the bottom paint off, rather flimsy will hold plate hopefully wouldn’t buy if I saw it in shop not good value cheaper plastic one just as good as this made in China. They know your not going to return cheap items more trouble than its worth.

Just what we were looking for, be careful where it is placed, tendancy to slip on shiny surfaces. Good seller.
