Great book on Power BI desktop
I think all users can get something out of this book. Very well written so that you can go through the book and understand the topics and build on them.

Slow and steady
Wishing to brush up on Power BI, the up-and-coming rival to the familiar Tableau, QlikView/Sense and the good old SSRS, I (a) signed up for Microsoft’s DA-100 certification exam, (b) reached to my bookshelf for a copy of “Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Microsoft Power BI” by Daniil Maslyuk - the official prep guide for the older Power BI certification exam, 70-778 - and then (c) surveyed Amazon for suitable books, avoiding, on one hand, thin, basic introductions and, on the other hand, advanced books about DAX or M.I ended up with three tomes:“Applied Microsoft Power BI” by Lachev and Price, published in 2020 by Prologika“Microsoft Power BI Complete Reference” by Knight et al., 2018, Packt“Pro Power BI Desktop” by Aspin, 2017, Apress. (A new edition of this book came out in 2020, after my shopping exercise).I skimmed all four books, then started going through the DA-100 “skills measured” outline… and found myself reading Power BI docs on Microsoft’s web site, and watching YouTube videos about Power BI - typically from the official “Microsoft Power BI” and “Guy in a Cube” channels - while the books mostly gathered dust on my table. (I spent the longest with Maslyuk’s, for its DAX coverage). A few weeks later, I passed DA-100, and revisited the four books to review them.In each case, there is limited enthusiasm, and advice to use free online learning resources. In the case of “Pro Power BI Desktop”, I praise the quality and the methodical approach I have seen in Adam Aspin’s earlier books, but note the book’s (clearly declared) focus on Power BI Desktop, as opposed to the broader Power BI offering. Power BI is usually practiced in a collective, and after mastering Power BI Desktop one must “graduate” to Power BI, so seek other references. Secondly, the payback for being thorough and methodical is monotony: a sea of select-this-click-that journeys through Power BI screens. A YouTube video (or a page of Microsoft doc) could be a lot more effective - but then you would need to know what to search YouTube for, and with the book, you get a guided tour.Overall, a worthwhile aid for Power BI beginners.

Really Good for beginners/intermediate
I am beginning my venture with Power BI, and after watching a few video tutorials I decided to buy a comprehensive book. The first book I bought was for intermediate/advanced users, but the learning curve was still too steep for me. Finally, I bought the ‘Pro Power BI Desktop’ and in my opinion is great, especially for those who do not have a lot of experience. The examples are very well explained with step-by-step detailed description. Currently I am half way through and so far, so good. Some readers may find the book too wordy and slow pace, but in my case this was exactly what I needed.
