Reef Octopus Classic 150INT Protein Skimmer

Great skimmer! Took a little time to break in. I read that you can put the emptying tube into a container and just remove from tank rather then overflow. After a few days of overflow from skimmer to the socks I decided to try it. I emptied about a gallon in a few hours and then the skimmer was basically broken in. Another week to really dial it in. I have been leaving it rather wet in order to keep the main body clean. I just clean the collection cup every few days and it is way easier to do preventative maintenance like that then remove the whole skimmer once a month or several months even. The collection ranges from dark green/yellow to nearly black and smells awful when emptying however no bad smells in my office near display tank. Free Tip: use a zip strip with some foam filter floss on the output and you can get this skimmer to almost silent and no bubbles in return to sump.

I work in an aquarium, and this is by far the best skimmer I have ever had. The collection cup just sits on top of the unit with an o-ring and pops right off, so there is nothing to take apart when cleaning time comes. It is simple to fine tune the water level with the gate valve. The venturi clips onto the unit and is extremely easy to clean and is not prone to clogging with salt unlike other brands. I was looking to upgrade our skimmers, and a fellow aquarist recommended the reef octopus brand, and I am glad we went with them. I have nothing bad at all to say about this skimmer.

I’ve had many protein skimmers over the years and this is by far the easiest to use. It’s very durable and does the job better than the others I’ve used. Perfect size for my 60 gallon sump and very quiet. I recommend for anyone looking for a skimmer that will get the job done.

Arrived appearing in good order. Put aside in anticipation of getting my tank up and running. Opened and realized when putting to get her that the pump didn't work when I plugged it in. Contacted CoralVue and refused to provide a replacement pump due to my buying it on Amazon. Not happy one bit with CoralVues lack of holding up the warranty on this pump. Have to shell out another $100+ to get a new pump. My frustration level with yhis whole thing is through the roof.

Unit came defective. After many, many, emails they finally sent the part that I had to install, three weeks later. Very disappointed they didn't send the complete motor. I would have gladly sent back the defective one in exchange for a new one. I've has several of these units in my saltwater tank and all have a life expectancy of approx. 5 years. It's the motor and internals that fail every time. If you're not a handy person, send it back to amazon and get a complete new one. This was worth the time wasted with these people.

The skimmer is great, but CoralVue is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. The original pump lasted 36 days and rather than deal with the issue, they sent me only the shaft of the impeller and not the tiny pieces that support it at both ends...they don't come off the old impeller. I finally had to send the original pump to them, where, wait for it...they installed an impeller ASSEMBLY! They had absolutely no concern that I would be without a skimmer and would not overnight the part. In panic, I went to a LFS and got another model with the same pump and it failed in 13 days...same response...even after I explained that I needed the entire impeller assembly, not just the shaft. I terminated the relationship and threw the pump and the broken impeller in the trash, where it truly belongs....horrible people. I will wait until the pump fails and change brands.

Love that it installed very easily. Functions as described. Makes millions of bubbles! Not 100 percent silent but not noticeable. Very well made. Worth the price because it’s definitely doing what it’s designed for. I have a lot of fish and feed a lot and this helps tremendously .

I had a cheap skimmer that broke down, this skimmer skims way better and was well worth the money, skims more then my old one and it's still in its break in period!
