Better than expected! Both the GT50 and Seller!!!!
I have had my GT50s for several weeks and now feel confident in their operation to be able to write what I hope is a useful comment. Bottom line up front - These are high quality units that seem to do every thing that is claimed of them well. I have not found any competition for twice the price in my searches. So, if you need an air purifier for a small space, look no further than the GT50. I would recommend that you buy them from The Green Giraffe. I have not dealt with a company more interested in making sure that the customer was happy and the product did what it was expected to do! In my experience and having lived all over the world I have never received more concern than from The Green Giraffe! I would rate them 5 stars! More if I could.... I had two problems that I had hoped to solve. We have a cat and her box is in our bathroom. Although it is kept clean, there are times it doesn't smell that way. The other was in my office at the university. Both areas are larger than the 50 sq. feet that the GT50 is designed to deal with. So, I began searching the Internet and began my research. I had read about a larger system on Dr. Mercola's site and looked on other sites where I had previously bought a purifier. I found a review on the GreenTech GT3000 and it looked a lot like the one that was so well recommended on Dr Mercola's site. It met the requirements what I wanted, but was designed for a larger area than those that I needed to purify. So, another search on GreenTech found the GT50. It sounded perfect for the task and it was only $50! So, I ordered two! They arrived 2 days later and I installed the first one in the bathroom. Within minutes of being turned on the air smelled fresh and clean! I did adjust the output to get the most benefit without any ozone odor. The next day I took the other one to work and it worked just as well in making the air smell clean! It seemed to give me increased energy as well. I did comment on the merchant feedback that I was very happy with the GT50s, but that they were louder than I had expected from previous customer comments that they were silent. It is not that they are loud, but that they were not silent. They sounded like they had a small fan inside which you can hear from as much as 10 feet away if it is quiet and if you are listening for it. I was surprised the next day to receive an email from the owner of The Green Giraffe who was concerned with the sound and asked if I would call her. I called and we had a very useful conversation about the sound and her worries that the product was not operating correctly. She was sufficiently concerned to immediately send out two new units and return label information for the two that I had. They arrived the very next day!!! I replaced the one in the bathroom and monitored it. It made the same sounds as the one it replaced... a quiet not objectionable fan noise. I called her with this news and said that I thought that there was a fan inside, thus the noise was not a problem. In fact, I asked her if I could keep the first two and pay for the new ones that she had already sent. That was arranged and now I have four! The owner wrote the next day and said that she had contacted the manufacturer of the GT50 and they had confirmed that there was in fact a fan in the unit. Again she went far beyond any merchant would normally go to investigate a problem due to her concern with wanting to provide a quality product and customer experience! One of the new GT50s went in my son's room that despite cleaning the carpet still had the faint smell of cigarette smoke from previous owners of our home. Although this room is almost 8 times larger than the stated capacity of the GT50 it smelled clean and smoke free by the next morning! The other was installed in the kitchen that is also much larger than the 50 sq. feet served by the GT50. The result is excellent! I will close this "book" by reiterating that the GT50 is everything claimed of it so far and that there is no better place to buy it than from The Green Giraffe! No... they didn't pay me to write this!

It's cranking out Ozone for sure
The GT50's method of generating negative ions is through coronal discharge that is generating Ozone and Nitric Oxides. So it's really and O3 generator and not strictly a negative ion generator. They don't market it this way as Ozone has bad press. The GT50 generates very small amounts that are safe. Ozone is, however, dangerous in higher concentrations. I'm in a 3,000 plus square foot house. I plugged it in the bathroom on the main floor and within 15 mins. I could smell Ozone half way across the house. That's pretty impressive for this little thing. Most people can detect Ozone in concentrations as little as 10 parts per billion. So it must be at least that strong where I'm sitting. If you can smell Ozone - you're cleaning the air. The extra Oxygen is cracking off and reacting with anything it can. This includes odors, bacteria, viruses, and anything and everything else that will oxidize. Even the pigment in the ink in photographs on your walls. Don't worry, we are talking very small amounts here. (Should you ever buy a commercial grade Ozone generator - used in fire restorations - you'd be surprised what you can destroy besides odors.) It would be difficult to build up a high concentration with what the GT50 is putting out. Under normal conditions, Ozone has a half-life of about 30 mins. The negative ions are cleaning the air as well. The will attach to positively charged particles and then be pulled to your positively charged floors or even walls. You will eventually vacuum that up. In any case, it's out of the air and you're not breathing it. The GT50 does make a hissing noise. That noise is the coronal discharge and fan noise combined. It's not loud or objectionable (at least my two are not). It has a light on it which makes a great night light - especially having these things placed in the bathrooms. They do need to be cleaned once a month, but cleaning them is very easy. I'm happy enough with the two I bought that I just ordered another two for the other bathrooms. They do seem to be well made. I just hope they last long enough that I'll feel like I got my 50 bucks worth. Lastly, they will keep your bathrooms smelling fresh. Space several through out your house and the whole house is going to be smelling fresh.

Consider the hazards before buying this product!
I was excited once this product arrived so plugged it in right away on med-low setting, waited, and took in a BIG breath of this "purifying air"... and became light headed. I did some research and became frightened, so I returned it. I highly recommend those interested in buying this product to review the governments Air Resource Board before purchasing. "Not all air-cleaning devices are appropriate for home use -- some can be harmful to human health. The ARB recommends that ozone generators, air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, not be used in the home. Ozone is a gas that can cause health problems, including respiratory tract irritation and breathing difficulty (Ozone and Health). In response to legislation, Assembly Bill 2276 (2006, Pavley), the ARB has adopted a regulation to limit the ozone emissions from indoor air cleaning devices. For more information on the regulation, please visit: (Air Cleaner Regulation Webpage link that Amazon won't let me insert)" - California Environmental Protection Agency, Air Resources Board. Consider getting a purifier on this list like I did: CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED AIR CLEANERS: (also failed link, sorry) ----------------EPA's Fact Sheet - Ozone Generators March 2006 ------------------- //Why are ozone generators still on the market? If ozone generators are ineffective at removing air pollutants, and they pose major health risks to users, why do they continue to be sold? The unfortunate answer is that misleading advertising by manufacturers is very effective, and no government agency has the authority to fully regulate these devices. Thus, ARB is actively working to educate professionals and the public about the dangers of using ozone generators. //What are the adverse health effects from exposure to ozone? Buyers of ozone generators may not be aware that ozone can harm the cells in the lungs and respiratory airways. Exposure to ozone irritates and inflames the lining of the respiratory system. It causes symptoms including coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. In persons with asthma, ozone can worsen asthma symptoms, and one study indicates that ozone may contribute to the development of asthma. Ozone impairs breathing. Elevated exposures to ozone can cause permanent lung damage, and repeated exposure can even increase the risk of dying among persons already in poor health. Persons especially vulnerable include children and those who suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases, including the elderly. Due to the health hazards of ozone, California has worked aggressively for decades to reduce outdoor ozone levels, with considerable success. For more information on the health effects of ozone, visit [...] In addition to its impacts on health, ozone can also damage materials such as rubber, fabrics, plastics and other indoor furnishings.

It will remove unpleasant odors completely & outperforms many larger air filters on the market.
I have had mine for over a year, it broke a year after use.however, I have bought several other air filter devices in attempt to mask/kill the odor of our litter box in the laundry room and none of them worked as well as the GT50. I spent over $500 on the other machines & was always so disappointed at how badly they worked. When I bought the GT50 I was totally shocked at how well it worked! It completely removed any odors I had in the room that I had it plugged into. So I would switch it from room to room when I had a bad odor i needed to get rid of. The device takes about 30 min-1hr to freshen the area and it works best in a smaller sized room, nothing larger than 300 ft. It also needs to be plugged into an outlet where it is not covered by other items, it has to have open space in order to work well, nothing should be blocking it. The room needs to have all windows & doors closed while running the device as well. The device emits a very fresh, noticeable ION smell which reminds me of the way static electricity smells when it's cold out. The smell is pleasant and feels fresh. However, I do not recommend using it as a air filter in a room used by humans regularly because the IONs can irritate the lungs and thus it is not recommended for a room used by people & animals for long periods of time. It is perfect for a bathroom, laundry room, closet, attic ect. It is the only device I have ever purchased that has been able to keep are small laundry room with the litter box smelling frees and clean. I can get rid of tough cat odor so effectively, you feel like your walking into a different room. Don't let the size fool you, it's powerful! There are some flaws that I want to tell you about. 1. It is not built to last for several years, are broke after a year and 1/2 of constant use, it just stopped working. 2. It must be plugged in near the odor source and all front and sides of machine need to have nothing blocking them, so put it in a open area. 3. Windows and doors should be shut while device is working for maximum odor removal. 4. It produces IONs which can & will irritate a person or animals lungs and nasal cavity of exspoed to it for several hours or constantly, that is why it is best for a room that is not constantly occupied (bedrooms, living rooms, playrooms ECT) because you will develop a itchy throat and cough after being in an enclosed area with it running for more than a couple hours at a time. This is what usually happens when people are exposed to IONS in a enclosed area for long periods of time and that is why when I plan to spend a long time in the laundry room (I have one there) and in the bathroom (I also have one there) I turn it off and ventilate the room with the window open a bit before I go in. I haven't had any problems with headaches or lung irritation from the device because I always turn it off & open a window when entering the areas I have it plugged into for more than a 30 min or so. Then when I am done I just close the window & turn it back on. It rids the room of the odor very quickly depending on the size of the room. I notice a huge difference in every area I plug it into after about 30 minutes, the odor is replaced by that fresh, static like ION smell. The one problem I truly have with it is that it breaks and or stops working after a year of constant use. It also needs to be carefully cleaned every 2 wks. You use a Q tip (be sure to remove half of the cotton base or it will get stuck in device during cleaning) dipped in rubbing alcohol to swab the mini intake tube opening at the bottom of the device. I broke my first one because I didn't take off some of the cotton from the swab before inserting it & it was too big for the opening & it cracked the devices opening. So you want to only have a small bit of cotton left on Q tip before inserting &. Make sure you use rubbing alcohol. You also need to gently tap the back of the device (where the grilles are located) on your palm to remove any hard pieces of debris from the grille. If you don't mind the flaws I've discussed about this device I would say it is hands down the most impressive, fastest working, most through air freshening and most noticeable type of device I have ever used. It works miracles for a stuffy room that has cat odor, cigarette smells, garbage, stale cigar odor and even clears out the odoors before you have removed the smelly items. It works well for rooms up to 200SQ feet. We use ours in the bathroom, laundry room, kitchen & basement. You can turn it off or on when you need odors removed and it also has a dial so you can adjust the strength of for control. It makes a very low hum, you only notice the noise if you get really close to it & listen. It is small and unobtrusive just takes a outlet to run. It's not bulky or ugly and if you have a severe cat odor problem from a litter box this will take it away completely, if you keep it plugged in and running 24/7 (like we do) the odor will never return. It's infortunate that it breaks down so soon but it has given us a year and 1/2 of a fresh smelling laundry room with zero bad odors and no cat smells so it deserves a high rating.

Works really well as advertised
I have been using this for couple weeks and am really impressed. Since I live in small 1-bedroom apartment, I've strategically placed it near HVAC air return grill (a/c runs a lot as live in desert). Since having this, I've noticed: -easier breathing -much less "hacking" morning coughs upon waking up -dark circles below my eyes are slowly disappearing -when I come home, it's almost like coming to a place which its air has been scrubbed-clean like being in the deep forest wood that I noticed instantaneous easier breathing after walking in. -air coming out of vents (a/c) smells much cleaner and fresher. -cooking odors disappears within an hour or two depending on what's cooked. Before that, the odor would last a day or two. -furnitures didn't get as dusty fast like it used to (after deep cleaning the place couple days after using this product) as I live in desert which is very dry, so I believe this product helps dust, et al settle down quickly than lingering in the air and clinging to furnitures & electronics. So impressed that I ordered one for my client's under the sink in kitchen island due to odor from trash and disposal. When walking by island, you could detect "fresh air" as if the island were an air-cleaner unit. :) A tip, if using in bathroom or small space, do not adjust it to max setting for full-time operations. Can run at max for an hour or so until odor goes away. The only negative thing about this product is that it really kills/remove the "personal" smell in my place (i.e. familiar pleasing smell, incense, reed air freshener, et al) but since I benefit so much from using it that it doesn't bother me and no longer burn incenses and I believe I won't need to buy air fresheners again. Since it recommends cleaning at least once a month but I felt that since it's near air return grill and that may have accelerate "dirt" quickly 2 weeks later, I used q-tip and alcohol according to its owner manual and noticed "beige" color on Qtip. (this is what reminded me to write this review).

Amazing
I bought this ionizer as kind of a last ditch solution to a difficult problem. I'd tried inexpensive ionizers in the past with no noticeable affects, although none were driven by a fan as this one is. I not only have my cat's litter box in the bathroom (she's a small cat so it's really not a problem) but my girlfriend had Gastric Bypass Surgery ten years ago. While it's made many of her dreams come true and she lost massive amounts of weight, I had no idea of some the health ramifications when I met her only months ago. Because so much of her digestive system has been removed, food doesn't digest properly and if she doesn't eat properly, she quite frankly destroys my bathroom. Having a window open and exhaust fan running does barely anything, and visiting my mom's house with no fan was a disaster. It's something she is very self conscious of and when I got exposed to how bad it was, I was really disturbed. I tried buying sprays, deodorizers, regular candles, a smoker's candle... anything. My bathrooms' exhaust fan vents right over the front door and into my BBQ area outside and it got horrible. I started looking again into ionizers out of desperation. Some people said yes it would help, some said no. I ordered this and then had second thoughts. I even attempted to cancel the order. But when it showed up, I figured why not? I cannot quite explain the immense improvement this thing has made. It has definitely saved a new relationship. It not only kills any cat box smell at all, but it neutralizes almost all of the odor issues which I didn't think was possible. We keep it on maximum which it seems to handle. Yes, there is a strong ozone smell which I liken to the smell of a swimming pool or hot tub (probably because so many use ozone generators). Even if it doesn't completely neutralize everything at first, the smell is gone in a few minutes. My mom's house is in Palm Springs and the window does nothing because the outside temperature is hot and stagnant. And as I mentioned, there is no exhaust fan in either restroom. We took this product over with us this past weekend and yes, it greatly helped there as well. As a result, when I can I intend to buy another. I've now cleaned it twice and if you follow the included instructions, it is easy to clean. I've noticed no degradation in effectiveness. Coming from an absolutely skeptic, I can honestly say this thing is a miracle.

Small But Mighty - This Is Great To Keep Your Bathroom Air Clean
I bought this device to plug into the outlet in our bathroom. Our bathroom has no window to the outside and, as you might guess, it can get stinky at times. I thought I would give this a try because I'm tired of spending extra money on air fresheners. This little device is small but mighty, and it works almost instantly! You can plug this device into any normal wall outlet - in the bathroom, the outlet by the mirror works just fine. The purified air comes out the hole at the bottom of the unit: you can adjust the strength by turning the knob on the side. This device puts safe oxygen into the air which will help kill bacteria as well. Within a few minutes, I noticed that the air in our bathroom had a clean, crisp smell and quality. Rather than spending money on air fresheners which just mask the smell, this unit REALLY CLEANS THE AIR - I turned off the device this morning and our bathroom still smells clean. This comes with complete instructions including easy cleaning. There are no filters to replace. Because of the small size - which will fit conveniently into a suitcase - we will be bringing it when we travel too, to keep the air clean of bacteria and pollutants when we're staying at a hotel.

Not What I Expected.....
After Reading several reviews on this item and feeling confidant in my purchase I went for it. It's not a bad little Purifier but, here are some notes worth reading on it. Several reviews said this item was silent or very quite. I'll say it's not loud but, that I could hear it from the other side of my house when it was on half speed. If you have a quite house or if you have good hearing you'll hear it at first then drone it out. The other thing I noticed was the smell of metal after the "Air" was purified. I've been running the purifier for about a month now and the smell has not gone away. I'm told that other Ionic Purifiers are the same way and that's how you know the air is clean. That's okay except the room I wanted "Purified" was the room I sit in for 8 hours a day. I tried turning the fan down to the lowest speed for several days and still had the same issue. I ended up Shutting it off while I was in the room and turning it back on when I left. I've since purchased a Holmes Air Purifier for $35.00 from Target that is much quieter and doesn't have a funny smell to it. Thanks for listening and Happy Shopping.
