Works.
Wear off the outer layer and it properly works.

OUTSTANDING!!
Definitely works great! Nice soft and consistent. Definitely one of the higher end fero rods. Only one I've tried that's on the level of quality is Uberleben.
User
Worth it.
Wipe the grease off as soon as you take it out of the package. The size of the rod is a bit small for my larger hands, and the drilled hole is too small to fit 550 paracord. The striker works well and is a very cool additional tool to have on hand. It's easy to use and was cheap enough to leave in the hurricane kit.
User
heavy but great output
At 4oz, this is a bit heavy but it's beefy, strong, and gives off a great shower of sparks. Easy to get a flame going with this rod.

My favorite fire starter...
I own a few of these now. I like the size as it allows me to create โsandwich bagโ emergency kits for work and school bags.

LET THERE BE FIRE!!!!!
I have several different types of Ferro rods. They are a bit smaller in diameter than this one. I messed with this one today and am happy with the larger diameter rod, the striker, & spark that this combo throws. I am looking forward to training with it.

Easy to throw sparks
The coating is easily scraped off but gets residue on your hands. This is the first ferro rod I've tried and I'm happy with how simple it is to throw sparks with this product.
User
A little short, but great striker and rod
I enjoy this striker and rod, but wish the rod could be just a little bit longer, especially if you wrap the top of the rod with duct or gaffer's tape to provide a handle as the company's fire starter video recommended. Makes good sparks.
User
Extremely easy to use
I bought this thinking it would be "neat" to be able to start a fire in cold conditions without the need of a match or lighter. I also understood that it was not easy to start fires this way and I would need to practice. It could not be easier. A little pile of dry tinder, three strikes with the scraper, and I had a fire.Only thing I would change is the mini carabiner that holds the scraper to the lanyard. Great idea, terrible execution.

LONGLASTING POTENTIAL FERRO ROD
Quite a large ferro rod which I prefer and the striker piece is nicely spined for producing good sparks. I always replace the attachment cords on these sets with high quality paracord and then it's good to go. Usual scraping required for the protective coating before use. Robust and good value.

Works
It does light up the fuel after a few sparks but I'd opt for a softer material instead to make more sparks as this material is hard and requires really strong force and experience to be able to make sparks

Uco firesteel
Excellent supplier. First one the rod had snapped, replaced promptly and without quibble.
