Review: Big book - Everything u need to knew about MCS Access. Review: The ONLY Access book for someone serious about creating a Database for work. - This book will serve you well if, you need to create a new database from scratch but you have no knowledge of Access but, you do have some basic knowledge of MSoffice, especially Excel. Access is not like Excel, you can't just open it and get cracking like with Excel, you will need a lot of support right from the start. This book goes into great detail, basically to master Access there are four main areas you need to understand thoroughly, Tables, Queries, Forms and Reports. I found the chapters on Queries harder to follow but it still gets top marks. Why, because its the only decent Access book out there and if you do get stuck there are loads of Youtube videos to guide you. It also helps if you have a genuine real world situation that requires a Database rather than just learning the sample files that come with the book (online). For me i needed to create a database to store quality control audit information on construction contractors. Personally i found the chapters on tables and table thereum easy to follow, i had my core tables all normalised and done in no time. The advanced stuff on macros and VBA is also well written, in Access there is no Macro recorder like in Word/Excel, instead there's a Macro builder and its easy to use and superior. The parts i found difficult are queries, and most of all, creating nice looking forms, i would of liked the book to of given me more hand-holding on these areas. But like i said, there is loads of stuff online. Update 9th December 2024 It's three years on now, and I can say I still refer to this book. In the early years, it was my tutor and now I'm quite good, it serves as a fully comprehensive bible. Access is a great way to start learning VBA also. It's actually a bit easier than learning with Word or Excel. I think it's because you have the VBA already there behind forms (ready made class modules). You just need a few lines of code and whoosh. You can do amazing stuff with VBA and its worth learning some SQL too. You can tweak your queries. What I said before wasn't quite right. You need to learn table theory, Queries and Forms but I barely use reports, reports are for when you want print stuff off. If you want to analyse date and display on screen then just use a form.

How vast this subject is
There is a lifetime of learning here for those who have the time and the inclination. Words such as comprehensive, all-encompassing, scholarly, erudite, and encyclopaedic come to mind. A tome for the serious learner.

Excellent value
The subtitle of this book is 'The comprehensive tutorial resource', and that is an accurate description, given its length of around 1090 pages. The first part of the book explains how relational databases work, and discusses the importance of designing the component parts of the database before doing anything else. This section is very good in itself, because the principles are true of any relational database application. Access is an advanced database system, with a range and level of functionality that could be confusing to the point of being overwhelming. The strengths of the Access Bible is that the subject matter is arranged very logically, and is quite readable. Using VBA to program Access is also covered, and the book is supported by a website. If you're a teacher, like its companion volume the Excel 2019 Bible, this would be a good resource for your education technology library. Definitely great value for money.

Not so much a 'bible' as a ,teach yourself' guide
A big book. Very much a teach yourself guide rather than a reference manual, which I would have expected with the word 'bible' in its title. Nevertheless it is easy to follow if you want to learn Access.
