Ion Semi Permanent Light Plum

I was trying to find an alternative to Arctic Fox's shade Transylvania, because that product has good color payoff and staying power but a greenish overtone I don't like. I was looking for something that was JUST BLACK with no overtone, or maybe just a purplish or bluish overtone.Coming out of the tube it was dark brown, and after processing 1 hr+ covered, at room temp, on virgin med. brown roots (e.g. nonporous hair), the result was "#1B"-like dark brown. I usually process for at least an hour because I feel like most semi-perm dyes are meant to be used on processed hair, and mine is already coarse, so that's two strikes against color uptake. The color result on the hair was comparable to the smear color of the product. So perhaps, maybe, possibly this is "black" enough for normies who want it to look natural, like an off-black, but if you want your hair LITERALLY F-ING GOTHIC BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK #1 and want to use a semipermanent dye, this ain't it chief.It technically covered my greys, but they're medium brown now.The directions don't specify covered vs. not covered. All it says is do so at room temp.The only pro was that the nozzle and consistency made it easier/less messy to apply vs a tint brush. It was easy to rinse out and didn't make a huge mess.

Put it on wait 15 min. Rinse. Shiny hair for 10 plus washings. Works well

This is good stuff, especially for grays. I have maybe 30-50% gray and am growing out my previously-henna'd hair. I use this to temporarily color the natural hair to blend with the henna'd portion until it is completely grown out. I've tried other products, including Adore and Clairol semi-permanent dyes, but this one colors better and lasts longer. I also use the John Frieda color glaze in between and it does a great job, too.

I genuinely don’t know if Ion reformulated or it was a seller issue, but this dye is offensive. Used to be a beautiful blue-black shade that didn’t run and lasted for months on end. Faded to a nice, natural brown. The new formulation bleeds EVERY wash, stains every towel within a 10 mile radius, and fades to a weird mucus green. So disappointed, this used to be my go to.

I love LOVE love this product. I have been using it since March and I have yet to find anything that compares color wise and staying ability. Its a bright red that does not wash out or dull quickly. I did match it was a red depositing conditioner which I recommend. I also will say don't use cheap shampoo. Spend the money and get good red shampoo. Otherwise regardless of what color you are dying you will strip it out so quickly.

My first attempt, I put the dye on my hair for 25 minutes, 5 minutes longer than recommended. The Dye mostly washed out within two days. My second attempt was for 40 minutes, pretty much the same thing. My guess is the good reviews are paid for, not worth the cost.

Considering how expensive this is and how excited I was for this dye I'm pretty bummed out. Don't get me wrong - this is a great color, but it stays in for two days at the most. I did EVERYTHING the box said. I even kept it in longer than it said to, and I did not shampoo for the first day. It requires so much product just to cover your head, and then it just disappears. I got through almost a whole bottle in TWO USES and they both immediately washed down the drain. And my hair normally takes dye very well! I went turquoise once with temporary hair dye and it stayed in for like two months. This bougie dye that I heard so much about is not worth it in my opinion. Maybe you'll have better luck. And if you do you'll get a great color, but I was just not lucky.

I've used clear gloss on my hair for years. I've used this product before, so knew what to expect. But this was definitely a disappointment. Not at all the same, texture of the product felt different. Container was not at all easy to use, it came out glompy in spurts. Didn't coat the hair as evenly either. Did they change the formula? not sure if this stuff can spoil from heat for it arrived pretty toasty from riding around in the UPS truck most of the day. Definitely won't order again.
