Author needs better research and/or proof readers/editors
I wish I could rate this book (and the entire series really) higher, but they all contain a lot of silly errors due to lack of research on what the author is writing about- locations/basic geography, language/vocabulary, other details important to the plot (for instance, people in the US do NOT have a National Insurance number).Which is too bad, as had he done so, I would have really enjoyed the read.

The Sins of the Father
..."where sex and religion mix, nothing is ever simple"...NYPD Cold Case Detectives John Stone and Carmen Dehan take a look at an eighteen year old cold case. Simon Martin was murdered, his wife, Silvie (the only witness) has amnesia and the list of suspects is "bizarre and unlikely." When the case interlinks closely with another suspicious cold case (this one is two years old), things get really interesting...This was another great book in the DEAD COLD MYSTERIES series! I am so glad that these books are short because once I start reading them I cannot stop until I get to the end. Stone and Dehan continue to be great partners and I get lost following the clues with them as they are trying to solve their latest case. I try to figure out who the real guilty party is, but I am never right — I like books that make me think. I am reading the series in order and I am already looking forward to the next book...AfterThought: Mistakes/Errors/Typos kept this book from getting a five star rating (example: "But once that grip was broken, and we were closing in on him, he diced she had to die.” — obviously "diced" should have been "decided").

“Res Ipsa Loquitor......The Thing Speaks for Itself”
NYPD Detectives Dehan and Stone are partners on the Cold Case Team. Convoluted, complex, strange, and really, really hard-to-solve cases are usually their first choice. Stone likes to keep things close to his chest till he is sure of a hunch, and this drives Dehan crazy. She has to remind him frequently they are partners so he needs to share. The two are at a point in their friendship where she platonically spends the night in his guest room and cooks for him, as they are both foodies. Yes, this is a funny relationship. In “The Sins of the Father” paternity plays a huge role, religion is a fundamentalist issue, and of course murder is as frequent as the secrets and lies. I love the ending! An entertaining read!

A darn good series with an interesting author tic.
I have binge read all four books in this series, and enjoyed every one of them. I didn't once commit the sin of skipping forward because I was bored. A Nick and Nora Charles for the 21st Century! One thing about reading a series straight through is that you notice the author's verbal ticks. I once read a series where every time the protagonist ate at a restaurant, he left "a nice tip," never a big tip, just a tip, but always a nice tip. For Mr. Banner, no one ever sits, perches or lounges--they "put their ass on" the chair, the sofa, the car hood, the counter, etc. I really liked this series, and I hope the fourth book isn't the end; I want to read about this pair of sleuths putting their asses on many more seats.

Stone and Dehan, two great cops.
This is the 5th book in this series that I have read and I have 3 more and can’t wait to read them. I love the 2 main characters and how well they work together. They were put together by a Captain that wanted to be rid of them. They have done a great job with each cold case. This one was amazing. I could never have figured it out. The person that writes these stories is so good. He really makes you love his characters. They are good cops and they even have a sense of humor. I understand there are 22 books in this series so I better get to reading. Do yourself a favor and read these books, but read the first one so you’ll understand it all.

Convoluted, Intense
Blake Banner has a convoluted mind in the best meaning of that word. His stories deal with murder and the emotions and intentions that bring that murder to pass. As cold case detectives Stone and Dehan are as intense and complex as the crimes they solve, and solve them they do in interesting and provoking ways. This story was as unique and intriguing as its predecessors, demanding that the reader follow closely and note the striations of human fallibility that ultimately reveal the culprit. I enjoy the interplay between these individuals and I respect the mental acuity they apply to their cases. Will definitely continue to follow this series.

I love the twists and turns Blake Banner creates with his novels. This novel, however, is a little disappointing for one reason. The grammar and/or typing in this book had many, many mistakes. I would like to see it corrected. I decided to give the book five stars instead of four because of the story and creativity.

Slow start, Scooby-Doo finish
The story started off slowly, but quickly devolved into some sort of soap opera-style farce, finally resolving in a dénouement that was truly worthy of a Scooby-Doo cartoon, complete with the long, drawn out explanation after the villain is unmasked.A few annoying bits of failure-to-proofread are littered about the story. Unfortunately, over-reliance upon spellcheck in place of true proofreading is not restricted to this book.Convoluted plot lines abound. Characterization runs the gamut from cardboard to stereotype. The suspension of disbelief was snapped before the end, and I was more skimming just to get to the 100% completion, which did help keep the blood pressure down with the multiple "you've got to be kidding me!" moments as the end approached.

Good But Not The Same Calibre As Earlier Books In This Series
Another good one. However, not in the same league as the four previous books in this series. It takes a while to get going. Well worth sticking with as the twists and truths take the applause. The latest cold case to come under the microscope of NYPD Detective's John Stone and Carmen Dehan. Has, them investigate a homicide that took place in September 1999.The unfortunate victim was murdered at home. Originally, from Texas, work tookSimon Martin to New York. A man of strong Christian values. He and his wife Sylvie were very active within their church. In the eighteen years since. Sylvie Martin has been able to live comfortably off the life insurance. Would she have been the killer? Or would the Reverend Paul Truelove, who has been a guiding light for so long, to so many in his community. Would, he be withholding information?

Detectives
I have enjoyed the whole series. Detectives Stone and Dehan are likeable characters with moral principles. They are not conventional in their detective work but get their perpetrator through a series of analyses and assumptions. I enjoy the banter between the two and admire their commitment to justice.Romance is there too but is not intrusive in the story. The only gripe I have is that it could be clearer in which order the books are published. Some say what number it is, others don't and I have read them out of sequence. It is a good thing that they are stand alone novels. I look forward to more of the same.

Quite a good read
I am thoroughly enjoying this series, yet felt this story the most disappointing so far. Yes,it's good to have Stone reveal all at the end on how he came to his conclusions but this one seemed a bit ridiculous. Maybe I need a break from these books . I've just read them all one after the other and this one left me not that bothered about reading the next one...just yet.

Good
Well it started of good but then I found it hard to believe. Detectives Stone and Dehan are partners and for the first part of the book seem to think alike but then for some reason gets left behind and doesn’t grasp what is happening and keeps asking Stone to explain himself at what seems obvious. Then Stone come to conclusion that spring from nowhere. The story was good and keeps you guessing
