Very good insight
I was already in the process of training my pup to help me medically, however he knew how to help me with pain management and alert me when I had an episode, but he didn't always know how to intervene with severe episodes of depression, anxiety, and other issues that made my daily routine difficult to get through.I was more impressed that this book educated me on what to expect when getting my pup through public access training, how he should and shouldn't act in public, what could fail public access training, what disqualifies a service dog from working, and more.I was thrilled to teach my pup how to bring medications to me if I dropped them, because bending over is agonizing, how to point out without being super noticeable that I'm having an adrenaline rush(not jumping up on me all the time), how to best get my pup into the car without purchasing a specialized "dog seat belt" for over a hundred dollars, and my pup knows from across the house that I'm about to have a severe depressive episode.I've been using this as a reference to maintain his training so that he doesn't forget his job. One thing that would be good to educate handlers on is the reaction the public will have being seen with a service animal so that they can make a more educated decision.I've had people try to pet my dog when his vest has said not to, I've had people try and kick me out for having a service animal, I've had people yell at me thinking I was bringing a "feel good dog" or ESA animal when he is not an ESA dog, and people try and take pictures of him or run up expecting to pet him, but lingering over hoping I'll let them. When I've told them he is working, they would get upset and storm off or report to someone to try and get me kicked out. I've had to go as far to buying service dog ADA cards so that they can be smarter next time. Would've been great to have a head's up over how people will react to my service dog. Even my colleges have tried to kick me out and I've had to report it to the police and the disability offices, they let me stay, but man is it a pain!Update the book and provide education to the handlers on what to expect before training our pups! Otherwise, five stars!

Not enough on Training!
While I did enjoy the book; it was not only about training. It goes over a lot of other information that I already knew and not what I was looking for.It was $20 dollars when I paid for it and itโs too much when the amount of training material was so little. The table of contents has key information for certain pages with what page it should be on; however the book itself is not numbered. The book has 8 chapters. The book has 102 pages, and a picture almost on every page.It wasnโt until chapter 8 that I had any information on how to train a psychiatric service dog!Which according to the table of contents is page 70 in the book!So in summary:The book was good information about service dogs, what to look for, and purchase for them. But unlike what the cover states it is not a good guide for training your dog.For what I paid and what I was expecting I am disappointed. But if you need a book on all of the information into getting and cost of a psychiatric service dog this might be the book for you.

Really useful book
I read this book with big interest. This is really an excellent book. This book provides critical information about how you can select the breed and type of dog best suited for your needs and how to train a dog for specific tasks. Author also include housing laws that govern where you and your service dog may live. By this book you can learn how you can accomplish your dreams by owning a psychiatric service dog and how you can train it yourself without having to pay someone an exorbitant amount of money to train the dog for you. I really liked this book and would recommend anyone who needs such type of information.

Very little information on how to train your dog.
I am not sure if this was written by a person who is a dog trainer or a person who compiles information on dog training. It was 80% things about everything else but actual training and then 20% about training. The photos included all contained a disclaimer saying they were used without the intention to infringe on copyright. I have never heard of this before. I am a photographer and I can only imagine that the author just grabbed any images he found on the internet and used them without a copyright release. The training directions assume you have training skills already.Ironically, the introduction states he is not a professional and then goes on to warn you that any reproduction of any part of the book will be considered copyright infringement. But wait; what if no copyright infringement was intended? The table of contents lists the page where things can be found but the pages are not numbered.

A good primer, but needs significant improvement
Overall, I found this book to be a basic selection and training guide for dogs in general loosely -- and often ill fittingly -- adapted for psychiatric/psychological service work. The author guides readers/listeners through only a handful of tasks which he applies to a variety of different diagnoses. I was unimpressed with his apparently lay -- and regularly oversimplified to the level of being inaccurate -- descriptions of specific diagnoses. The author does provide a fairly well thought out discussion on housing laws, insurance and wellness, the pros and cons of different collars and harnesses, and behavioral expectations of service dogs in public spaces. If you're a consumer without a background in psychology or dog training who is looking for a primer on service dogs then this book is a good place to start your journey; just keep in mind that the author is a dog trainer and not a mental health professional.

Great starter
Very helpful as we are having to train our own service dog. Great place to start. Knowledge is everything when doing this.

Terrible and below basic
This is not by an expert or even a very experienced layperson. The information is so basic it barely makes sense to buy for a first time dog owner and is an absolute NO for anyone needing to train a service animal of any kind!DO NOT BUY FOR PSYCIATRIC SERVICE DOG TRAINING!!!

Overpriced
Didn't have much valid information. Wasted pages as print is too large. Not much information on training for mental illness.
