This is a great and informative book on how to do all aspects of relief carving. From carving the subject to wood burning where necessary. Very impressed with this book from start to finish.

Enjoyed reading this book. Illustrated pictures are great. It provided me a lot of new carving ideas. This is my first book on wood carving.

This book has some great patterns for the beginning relief carver. It is nicely illustrated with good instructions. I am glad to have it in my collection and will probably carve a couple of the patterns shown.

This book gives the novice carver an inkling of the basics to this skill along with good instructional information before beginning to attempt your first carving project. It is well written and the drawings are apropos to the descriptions and instruction that are given. This book can be used time and time again whenever one needs to reference any point of a carving project! sms

Great ideas and well illustrated

The book is well illustrated with glossy pictures and nice patterns, however this is not a beginners woodcarving book. Most projects show just a few steps to finish complicated patterns. Also it shows carving with power tools which is not what I wanted. It starts off with a reciprocating carver. Stadtlander also must have an endless supply of gouges because some patterns call for 10 different gouges, plus a bunch of other tools. It would be interested in seeing the pages of tools he uses in this book. He shows very few tips and hardly any for a beginner carvers.Over all if you are looking for good ideas this might me a good book for you.
