The Fight to Make Equal Mean Equal Isn't Over Yet
Equal Means Equal: Why the Time for an Equal Rights Amendment is Now by Jessica Neuwirth examines the history of the Equal Rights Amendment, why it's necessary, and several common myths regarding the U. S. Constitution and the Equal Rights Amendment including the arguments made for and against and the struggle for ratification. Neuwirth offers examples of the cases that have been brought before the cours and have been decided that highlight repeatedly that the U. S. Constitution does not protect women the same as it does men. She makes her argument with facts and quotes from court cases that demonstrate how the judicial system consistently determines that the U. S. Constitution and the amendments to the U. S. Constitution don't apply to women. She explains why and how the Equal Rights Amendment would add women to the U. S. Constitution giving women constitutionally protected equal rights. Equal Means Equal is a short, engaging, easy to read book that demonstrates that asking for equality isn't asking for special treatment but for the right to participate in society as equal partners.

even though legislation like the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Pregnancy ...
Thoroughly researched and thoughtfully written by an attorney who is battle-tested in women's rights organizations throughout the world, this book explains why we need the Equal Rights Amendment now. To begin with, 72% of Americans think we already have an Equal Rights Amendment. Yet, as this book makes clear, women's rights are compromised over and over again, even though legislation like the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act are the law of the land. You'll be grinding your teeth when you read of the ways the US Supreme Court has ruled on these laws in opinions that diminish women's rights. Women need to be in the Constitution of the US, as "Equal Means Equal" so clearly explains. An Equal Rights Amendment will make that a reality.

A MUST Read!!!!
A MUST read for anyone who believes that human beings should have equal protection under the law. The author explains why we need to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in easy to understand terms. The book is well researched and backed up with citations of court cases and information gleaned from nonpartisan sources. Many people are under the very wrong impression that the 14th Amendment is sufficient protection against gender discrimination. People also assume the Equal Pay Act is all that is needed to ensure a fair and equal workplace - not true - and she cites loopholes that allow for legal discrimination. There is so much information in here that I know I'll be reading it more than once. The book also contains a wonderful foreword from Gloria Steinem. Equal Means Equal should be required reading for every American citizen!!

An essential tool to educate about the need to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2015/16
Working to raise awareness of the need to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in an unratified state (Virginia) this book, so well researched by the author in both the historical lookback and the modern reasons the Equal Amendment remains the most important unfinished business of the Constitution,, Equal Means Equal has become an essential tool to advocate and educate legislators and the public about the importance of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment #becauseIts2015 Women-Matter.org

As an early ERA activist,I applaud Neuwirth's comprehensive presentation. Arguments exist which support "the three state strategy". As a 68 year old feminist, I hope to survive long enough to see ERA ratified. As a realist, we cannot in these times trust Congress to do right by women. Bless you Jessica Neuwirth for explaining the issue in simple, clear prose. Right on Sister!

Women Need to be in the U.S. Constitution
Read it before our "Resistance Group" visited our state representative and senator. Gave them copies too! We need 2 more states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and Illinois has not passed it!

NOT EQUAL YET
If anyone thinks that the 14th amendment has provided equal protection for women under the law, he or she should read Equal Means Equal. This book, which documents the patently unjust treatment women have received in too many cases, is a must read for anyone who thinks that women now have equal rights.
