This is the ultimate USB-C adapter
I knew when venturing into the land of USB-C devices that I would eventually need to acquire a hub like this to stay productive. While my computer, thankfully, has decent I/O, I begin to find myself preferring to use this hub instead because I can leave my dongles plugged into the hub itself. So far, I’ve used this adapter with my computer, my Android based cellphone, and my Nintendo Switch for various functions. The materials feel high quality and it has a good weight to it without making my laptop bag feel weighed down. The enclosure is made with a metal that has a very matte feel to it. I’ve been a little scared of scratching it but it’s taken what should have been scuffs really well and I don’t even see them. A velvet carrying pouch was included for it for those who like to keep their devices extra protected. The ports are labeled clearly and effectively and there is an indicator light to confirm that the hub is connected and receiving power/data. Below is an examination of each port and how they worked for me on my various devices.Pass through charging:Because this hub has a USB-C input on it, it has the ability to do something called “pass through charging” where your device can charge while still taking advantage of the USB ports and other I/O. Pass through charging only seemed to work with my laptop computer. It didn’t work for my phone or Nintendo Switch and I was using a 61 watt charger for all three as well as the original Nintendo Switch charger to test it. My computer is rated for a 65 watt charge but charges at virtually the same speed with the 61 watt PD charger (purchased separately). The fact that this didn’t work for the smaller devices means that they weren’t designed for using pass through and doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the hub itself. Those other devices charge fine with direct input.SD card slots and File transfers:Another bonus to having “pass through” available is the ability to boost the speed of the hub itself. If I’m using my computer’s regular charging port and I’m using this USB-C hub, I can use pass through charging to make the hub more capable. This means that my file transfer speed increased the second I added USB-C power to the hub even though the power of my computer on AC power was sufficient enough without it.I don’t currently have the hardware available to really put this through its paces with transfer speeds. The card I used for a file transfer maxed out at 22mps and I don’t feel that I was taking full advantage of the hub’s capabilities in this sense. At the end of the day, regardless of whatever technology or speed it’s capable of, it still enables someone without an SD card slot to actually transfer files. Better yet, it has both a full SD slot and a micro slot so you can work with both sizes of cards without an additional adapter and could, theoretically, transfer two cards at once.I couldn’t get my cellphone to recognize the SD cards, though. I’ll continue fiddling around with this and I’ll also try with other phones because maybe it’s just me. I did not check whether SD cards are recognized with the Nintendo.USB-A:The selection of full size USB ports offered here are perfect for my needs. I have some older peripherals that, sometimes, will not work with USB 3.0 ports for whatever reason. Having two USB 2.0 ports available accommodates those devices perfectly while leaving the USB 3.0 ports for storage devices that can actually take advantage of those speeds. Four ports feels like enough for me on an average day of productivity. When I’m not using the 2.0 ports for older devices, I’m using them as my dedicated ports for my mouse and keyboard dongles. I feel more confident leaving those dongles in the hub than storing them in any other way- less likely to get lost or dropped into oblivion. The USB ports work as expected with my Nintendo Switch and my cellphone. On my Nintendo Switch, I used the USB ports for my Taiko No Tatsujin drum peripheral and I tested a keyboard with it in the e-Shop. On my cellphone, I used the USB ports for a mouse, a keyboard, and a thumbdrive. All worked as expected (the thumbdrive required the Google Files app to navigate).Ethernet:If ethernet was the only thing this hub offered, it would be enough. Seriously. It’s such a relief to have the option of faster download speeds on devices that don’t have an ethernet port built-in. I was able to test the ethernet with my laptop to download Civilization 6 and I also was able to use it to download a huge NBA 2K20 demo on my Nintendo Switch. My laptop was able to charge over USB-C while downloading. The lack of pass through power for Nintendo Switch means that I started my download with a fully charged battery and finished the download via WiFi on the charging dock when the battery got low. Despite this limitation, it still helps when compared to using WiFi alone! I’ll come back later with an update when I have a USB-C to USB-A adapter for my Nintendo dock to see if the ethernet works through the dock with this hub using that.HDMI:This hub comes with two HDMI ports and I’ll only ever need one but I’m not complaining! Having two is going to be super for folks with two high definition monitors at their desks. My monitor worked as expected with my laptop via this hub. I was unable to test it with my phone as my phone isn’t compatible with HDMI technology but I’ll try it with someone else’s phone. The Nintendo Switch isn’t compatible with the HDMI on this hub due to the lack of pass through charging, but I tried it anyway just for you guys. Def doesn’t work and was never intended to work that way. (also you should never use anything except the original Nintendo dock, but I digress)VGA:So, technically, you could actually use 3 monitors through this hub because of the VGA port offered in addition to the dual HDMI ports. I’m happy to say that it works perfectly and I never want to use it again because VGA should be retired by this point. If you’re in a cost cutting situation, I respect that. But if your boss is making you do presentations over a VGA connection requiring you to buy an expensive adapter just to make it work with modern 2020 PCs.... it’s time to petition your boss for a new A/V system at work.Sound/microphone:The headphone jack on this device is a point of contention for me. While I understand and appreciate that it’s there for those who have devices without a headphone jack at all, it’s created problems on my end. When plugged into a laptop or cellphone or even my Nintendo Switch, all sound gets routed to this device. If I only wanted to use this device as a USB hub for file transfer or watching videos from a thumbdrive, I’m committed to the hub’s headphone jack when combined with my phone or Nintendo- I can’t use my speakers for sound when the hub is plugged in. The same thing happens with my laptop but, thankfully, Windows 10 is really easy about switching audio outputs directly from the taskbar so it’s much easier to work with. (Note that, when switching audio in Windows, this hub shows as USB PnP Audio Device.)Sound works fine with headphones, so if you’re someone who lacks a headphone jack on your cell phone or PC, this hub will cover that for you. I don’t have a working combo headset (ear buds with mic) to test the jack’s full capabilities with but I was able to use a smartphone lavalier microphone with it with no problems. The lav mic was the type with a 4 prong headphone jack (three black bands on the stem). I tested a 3 prong (2 black bands) adapter I have for it (meant for computer combo jacks, I think) and the adapter wouldn’t work. So the jack is definitely designed more like one a smartphone would have (or would have had…).I’ll try to come back later with updates and, hopefully, specific numbers (re: file transfers and download speeds). I hope what I’ve offered here is enough for the average person looking to expand their laptop’s abilities with some mobile perks on the side for other devices.

Works Great
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 7 I purchased in November. It is a great 2 in 1 laptop, but I needed the ability to project my screen and use additional USB ports. The USB C Hub by TOTU is perfect for the job. It has a medal case with a sharp looking design to it. It is also light weight, which makes it perfect for carrying around with my Surface Pro 7. It also came with a nice carrying bag for storage.I am using the HDMI and VGA ports for display and they both work superbly. There are times I need the VGA for an old school projector connection and I simply plug it in and it works. I can use duplicate screen or extended screen with no problem. I have shown video with this and the quality is great! Just plug and play, it is really that simple. Also, when I use the VGA port, the Microphone/Audio port works great projecting my sound through the speaker attached to the projector. Of course, the HDMI is a better picture and I have used it with a TV and projector. The HDMI transmits sound also, so it not only gives a better picture it is more convenient for sound. This device has two HDMI and 1 VGA so you can actually have three screens projecting at once and with the extend screen option I can have a movie on another monitor or tv while I do other things on my Surface Pro 7. This is a perfect 10 when it comes to video.Another great feature is the USB ports. There are 2, 2.0 USB ports, and 2, 3.0 USB ports. I can hook up my external DVD drive to show a movie or copy information from a CD if needed. I can also use the additional USB ports for external mouse and keyboard when I am connected to an external monitor. All USB ports work just as you expect them too, another perfect 10 for the USB ports. For even more convenience this USB C Hub has an ethernet connector. This allows me to take my Surface Pro 7 to the modem and connect it directly to it for internet speed testing. There are also times when I need an ethernet connection so I will be nice to have this with me. Again, this is a perfect 10 for this little device. Not only does this have all of these packaged together in a very compact device, but you also get SD/TF Cards Reader. This is very convenient for taking a card from an outdoor camera and being able to copy it directly to my computer. This is really just icing on the cake for a very well-built device that offers everything I need to make my Surface Pro 7 more productive. Everything has worked just as expected, so my overall review of this is a perfect 10. I have had no issues with this device.

Works as desired for dual monitors
Purchased this hub earlier in the year for those occasions when I would be working from home. Little did many of realize at that time that working from home would become the new normal during this COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, I really wanted to recreate my normal office setting, but on the cheap. My goal was to simply connect my laptop to dual monitors in my home office to make my work space more efficient. While I love the convenience of the Dell Universal Dock (D6000) that I use at the office for powering my laptop and connecting other devices, I wasn’t too excited about its price ($285). The TOTO USB C Hub gave me exactly what I was looking for at a much better price. I have not had any trouble connecting my laptop to my dual monitors using the hub, and now I am using the hub more than I ever expected. Though it doesn’t charge my laptop, this lower cost alternative has served me well.Recently, I added a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse to my home office set up. The USB wireless receiver in the hub worked fine initially, but I began seeing some hesitation in the responsiveness to the keyboard (I typed, but saw a multiple second delay in the text’s appearance the screen). The problem was solved when I moved the wireless receiver to the laptop’s USB. I haven’t tested it since to determine if it was a recurring problem with the hub or just a temporary laptop glitch, but it may be something I investigate later. For now, the dual monitors are still working great with the hub and that is my only concern.

Warranty not apply to Canada
The hub worked well for few months. After 4 months, I got some problems with it.I contacted the manufacturer "Totu". They told me that they don't sell the item in Canada and that their warranty doesn't apply to Canadian customers.Very disappointing.

Not working after 2 years.
Worked for a couple years; but suddenly stopped working at all and makes a concerning whining sound when plugged in. A different brand plugable USB-C dock/hub w nearly identical specs that I have for a different laptop in the house is around the same age and working just fine.
