Maybe it's not entirely it at fault?
I have a height-adjustable desk, and the computer sits on a coffee table next to it. I've got a high-quality 6' USB extension lead from the computer to the hub on the desk. I have a Microsoft Natural 4000 Keyboard, a Logitech Marble Mouse, and a Logitech MX Revolution plugged into the hub. Sometimes the hub plays dead when I turn on the computer. However, it will always die about two minutes after boot. Occasionally it just dies randomly, but not very often. In every case I just disconnect/reconnect it to the extension and it comes back.I can't recommend this hub as a solution for attaching multiple peripherals at the end of an extension lead for reducing cord clutter. It's damned cheap, though, and works perfectly except for occasionally failing completely. Maybe if you only want two low-power devices it'll work for you? Maybe there's too much voltage droop at the end of my extension? Or maybe it sucks a little bit, but I guess I can't complain too much at the price.

Somebody's Cheating?
Run the outputs from a KVM switch into this to save ports on my laptop. Works with all mice and about half of the keyboards that I've tried. Some keyboards don't work, others say that the driver load failed, but they work.Once or twice one of the ports appeared to be a USB 1.0 when I plugged in a USB 2.0, but it doesn't happen often or consistently.

Ok.... I don't know what's the problem is but it is just what happened to me
I am driving Honda Accord 2012. it has a USB input for iPhone/iPod. and I bought this is because I wanted to able to charged multiple devices when I am driving. Android, my wearable camera and iPhone from time to time. so I don't need to keep switching cable. So I got this splitter. and try to put my devices on it. All my USB devices and Androids work as expected. They charge normally. However, none of my Apple product would charge on this even I tried it on computer. iPhone will say, it won't support charging. Also, my car won't able to control the device on my radio control buttons. My car will say "Not Support". So I still have to change songs, fast forwards and rewinds by using my phone. And it was the main reason I want to buy this splitter. But anyway, I am using it on my computer and it is working as expected. Data transfer is good but not charging on iPhone. I think it is something Apple added. iPhone 4 and 5 have the same problem.

Great for the Price
Exactly what I need and it's cheap. The connector heating up when being used for a while but other than that it's great. I really need it because my laptop only has one USB Connector while I like to use a mouse, and connect my flash drive or my iPhone for syncing at times.

It Worked Great For the First Month
I purchased this product because I obviously needed additional USB connections for my computer. I used it to connect two back-up external hard drives, and a wireless mouse with keyboard. Initially when I began using it it worked fine, no issues. Then after about a month I got popup windows indicating that my device wasn't recognized. The notices continued to become more frequent, and I wasn't able to access one of my hard drives. I assumed it was the hard drive and never gave it much thought. Later, before investing in a new external hard drive I decided to plug the hard drive directly into the computer's USB port and it worked fine.I continued to use the USB splitter cable for the other device configurations and began getting the popup window again about the external device not being recognized.I then purchased a totally different USB Hub, and all devices are now working great.I purchased the Aleratec High-Speed Flexible USB 4-Port Hub with Splitter Cable because it was cheap and I could easly buy it online. Turned out to not be such a great decision.I also contacted the seller to see if they would consider sending another to replace it. I just received the, "It has been over 30 days since your purchase" (Translation: Too bad our product is no longer working for you, and by the way we don't want any future business from you either.)That's my experience, maybe you'll have a better experience with this USB hub if you choose to buy it.Best of luck,

Great For the Multi-Tasker
I got this for my job. I work with computers and tech all day. And a computer only comes with an average of 3 USB ports. I run 3 monitors, wireless mouse, keyboard, cell phone charger, and any other tech that gets thrown at me for the given day. This hub is a perfect tool and works great. I totally recommend it to anyone needing more versatility out of a computer setup.

SOME THINGS WORK
None of my devices (camera, headset, webcam) work on any of the ports. How hard can it be to make this thing?Update March 2013: the nice people sent me another unit and it is better. My Panasonic camera will connect thru the unit and so will a memory stick and my headset, but my Rocketfish webcam still won't. Could that be a Rocketfish issue? Can't beat the price, so give it a try.

not reliable
While these seem to work if you are only using one of two leads at a time, they get dropped by the pc if you are using more than two at one time: I had a keyboard, mouse and printer all going at the same time and all three stopped working. Since I was able to reproduce this exact issue no matter what USB port I used on the PC, I have to conclude it was the splitter failing.I also wasn't able to charge, via the USB connector on the device, a hand held digital recorder using one of the connections on this splitter. I kept getting an error on the handheld device's screen: "power supply inadequate" or some such message. This splitter also get REAL hot at one point. I don't remember exactly what I was doing but remember grabbing it after it stopped working at was surprised at how hot it had gotten.Spend the extra money and get a quality unit.
