It works!
A quick update after using these for a good while: If you find after using them for a season or two that the line seems difficult to move and gets stuck, don't forget to lubricate. I lost whatever oil came with the tongs but just used some spray lubricant where the line runs through tongs and it was just like new.I read reviews before my purchase, so I knew going into it that there is a learning curve to this gadget. My significant other doesn't get things done at the speed I would like, and I hate paying someone to do tasks I should be able to do, so I decided to stop paying for gutter cleaning and do it myself. I am a woman, and I am tall - so, women can definitely use this, but if you're more on the shorter end, it might be a bit tricky just from a reach standpoint. All my gutters are on the first story, and I am doubtful that I'd be successful with 2nd story gutters as supporting the pole and pulling the cord are definitely doable for first floor, but up to a 2nd story I think would be a challenge. That all stated, on my first use, I got frustrated but was not giving up. I set it aside for a warmer day and got back to it. Having seriously full gutters will make your first use a bit more challenging, but keep at it.The biggest trick here is getting the tongs in your gutter so they are not angled AND staying away from gutter hangers inside the gutters. If you get one of those between the tongs, when you pull up, you'll get hung (and maybe cuss). So, start with the tongs squeezed together as you go in the gutter, then release them open while inside the gutter and pull to close again. This makes it where the tongs may bump against the hangers but won't have them in between. Then, just lift and toss the debris. If you have super full gutters, do smaller sections. You do not have to use these fully open each time you go to grab leaves. Huge chunks of wet leaves can get stuck as you're lifting them and make it harder to lift out, so just pull your tongs together some and work on smaller clusters.I think the best bet is to clean your downspout areas with more frequency, so then you'll rarely need to clean the full length of the gutters as you'll eliminate big clogs. My fiance laughed when I bought this, and laughed when I first used them; but I have proven him wrong and now don't have to wait on him to get things done!

OK for one story gutters, but not great
Purchased in conjunction with a 7-30 ft Extend A Reach telescoping aluminum pole. I bought it to reach a section of 2nd story gutters too high for my ladder. The pole/gutter cleaning combo was too unwieldy for this purpose. This product is OK for one story gutters, but not great. You need to work very hard to clean gutters with this tool, but if you don’t want to use a ladder this is better than nothing. One good point, when the 100 pound fishing line breaks it looks like it will be easy to fix.

Big Help
I would not start a gutter cleaning business with it but, it did exactly what I needed it to do. I was able to reach second floor gutters frome the ground and get debris out. It is a bit of a slow process and the plastic construction doesn't make it the toughest tool I have but it does work. Definitely worth the money.

Skeptical before purchase but I can report it works as expected
Wasn’t keen on the idea of having someone clean gutters for $150+ a pop twice a year-Had actually been coming up on a full year since last professional cleaning, kept putting it off and then I discovered this tool. Bought the extendable pole along with this. Couple notes,“+”- I had some full gutters after the full year of no cleaning. This felt sturdy to pick up the wet weight of what was pretty much compost material.- definitely cleaned out everything from the gutter, you can hear a slight scrape sound to know tool is hitting the gutters clean-Tip: It takes a knack to navigate around the gutter supports (I landed on you go up w tool closed and hit a gutter support to find it- then, push debris under supports w tool closed, then open slowly and wiggle the arms underneath a supports as you open slowly, pull back together & you get more w less passes)“-“-you will need to attach another rope or some twine to the end of the rope this comes w if using on 2nd story- I also had to duct tape this to the pole thread end to ensure it didn’t twist and loosen as I rummaged in the gutters and hit the gutter support bars which always knocked it loose. Once taped, no issues

Plastic construction is too weak.
It broke within the first 30 minutes of use. There is a little plastic tab that stops the motion of the jaws. That snapped off. The care instructions say, “use care as to not apply too much angular force”, which is a good warning. Problem is it seems that the typical amount of force is apt to be too much as you’re wrestling with a clump of leafs. The overall concept is good and it’s good to keep you off a ladder. I just wish that part of the design was sturdier.

It actually works!
I was skeptical based on how lightweight this is and how clogged my gutters were, but it really worked well! I would love to see a metal cable used in this contraption, but I think I'll just replace the plastic one with metal once it breaks. The plastic string is lubricated well though, so that should help it last longer. I have a complex system of second floor gutters on my house, and this tool coupled with a long extension pole did the trick. My gutters hadn't been cleaned in many years, so the dirt built up was heavy and this tool handled it. Just be patient and know you're going to have to go by feel. But if you take your time this should do the trick!

Not very effective when you actually need it.
This item has turned out to be practically useless and I would return it if I could. It is difficult and ineffective when the gutter is filled with wet leaves, and it's always getting caught on the gutter supports. It would be less time-consuming and work better for me to just get on a ladder. The only good thing I can say is that it hasn't broken yet.
