First there was light, then there was music!!!!
So excited! Opening the box you’re greeted by components that need to be carefully assembled to enable the turntable to perform as expected. There is a comprehensive instruction manual and the instructions are easy to follow. Don’t be scared by the components - it’s click and tighten. Balancing the tone arm is the trickiest part as it’s been a while…. It’s seriously straight forward! But the manual does take you through it step by step. You will have to also pop on the platter and felt disc before use and you are also given a centrepiece if any of your discs have it missing. The turntable has a preamplifier and so can have speakers connected directly to it via a RCA connection. This is what I have done. You can plug in to an amplifier, and there is a switch to toggle on the rear if you do. For a home user like me, the sound quality from this deck is incredible. The stylus is included with the turntable and picks up the music with such delicacy, you can begin enjoying blasts from the past as quickly as you can connect all the components. The tone arm is light but very well controlled by the lever with the softest of descent to the vinyl. There are 4 vibration absorbing feet on the bottom of this deck, allowing almost nothing to spoil playback. Aesthetically, this is a wonderful classy piece of kit. Minimal fuss on the surface. Just the RPM control, and the anti skid dial on display. The power button is on the back with the output connections. I have coupled this first Class deck with a set of Q Acoustic M20 speakers. Together they transform my lounge to the music venue of my choice, filling the space with clean crisp sound. I can’t envisage ever needing to upgrade!

Very good quality turntable
Overall, very pleased with this product. It was easy to set up with clear informative instructions. Make sure the pre amp is off if you are playing it through an amplifier with a dedicated phono input. The motor is silent and the sound quality is excellent even if the record is old and of questionable quality. The earthing lead seems to cut out much of the static. This turntable was about twice the price of the ‘House of Marley’ deck but the quality of the Teac deck is far superior and worth the extra money if your budget can run to it. My only criticism is that the turntable continues to rotate and does not automatically stop at the end of the record.

Researched before Buying
I was looking for a vinyl player DD from the UK and my choices were limited between Technics/Audio Technica/Teac. I decided to try the Teac TN 4D...since I'm already in possession of the other two. First reading the specs I found it had a higher SNR than the Audio Technica AT LP 5x my closest comparison. Fairly simple in terms of a set up which I completed in about 15 to 20 minutes after opening the box packing which I must say was beyond superb as it had about 3 layers of protection. The price that I paid was less than 350 GBP. The only disappointing thing was the Sumiko Oyster pre-installed cartridge that comes with the turntable. After a few plays the fidelity and sonics were missing and I promptly changed it to the Nagaoka 110 which seems to work fine. I had some issues fixing the dust cover but did so after watching a video and reading the instruction. Nice S shaped tone arm caters to 33 1/3 & 45 RPM. You can connect to a computer with a USB output for HQ files. I simply connect it to my Tascam CD recorder to convert rare LPS to CDR. Now the price for this turntable has shot up considerably to nearly 500 GBP. If you can pick it up in the 350-400 range one should be happy. Maintaining it well should provide decent listening & entertainment !

Don't listen to audiophiles please!! An honest review!!!
Well, I ordered this as a present for an early Christmas and I chose the turntable over similarly priced ones from other companies, so let me tell you first what this turntable replaced. I have an aging Dual CS 5000 and an aurex SQR 500; both turntables have seen better days and I was quite frankly worried about their safety. The choice was to get the Dual serviced and carry on with the old or take a stab at the new and hopefully come up with an alternative that is maybe as good. However, I am told again and again and again by audiophile websites that you will never beat those turntables from the Golden Era.Are they still living in ancient Greece or something?Well, the turntable arrived within a day of order and upon opening the box I was greeted with a plain and simple, yet rather well-styled turntable (very well packed). This player has plenty of style, the S arm is a throwback to the golden age indeed as is the fully manual non-automatic operation. At the back you have the normal ports RCA to hook the player to your speakers and the table benefits from a pre-amp inside the player, this can be bypassed with a switch if you already have an amp with a dedicated phono stage. The chassis of the table is shiny black with two simple buttons for 33 and 45 records and the on and off switch is around the back as are various ports for plugging the player into a computer. You can akso download your vinyl into digital formats via USB. Now my old Dual CS 500 certainly did not have those options and I will not be using the player for that purpose. What the table does share with my old Dual one is a crystal lock motor so speed stability should not be an issue.I was impressed. Now every manufacturer cuts a corner somewhere and here we find one such example. The Sumiko Oyster cartridge provided with the player is pre-installed so you will not have to mess about aligning it, once you have set the arm tracking weight in place you are good to go and in this case the cartridge is an excellent match to the player. The corner cut here however is the flimsy felt mat that came supplied, yes they do slip when playing, so I send off for an Acrylic Mat and, you guessed it, I succeeded in taking all the cut corners out of this wonderful player. And it is an excellent turntable for the price. You can forget the Audiophiles who swear by one or two makes alone and if you are willing to think outside the box, make a few modifications and spend time getting the table around to your liking you will have an excellent well-styled modern player that really does cut the groove. Maybe not for audiophiles but it is for me, and anyone else who remembers buying their first player for a few quid back in the day. This is light years ahead of my expectations and has kindled my trust in modern players.Teac always made reasonable stuff, they were never cheap and as far as I know, they tended to deliver on the price tag.Nothing has changed, apart from the fact that I could afforf one this time. What a lovely present. Not disappointed!Having praised Teac to the hilt be wary when researching the brand, reviews of some of the Teac belt drives are mixed. This is the first direct drive from them and many issues have been sorted.Rock steady speed, good cartridge match, pretty looks!
