Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Rift Review: A fangirl's dream FULFILLED - This is the third installment of the Avatar: The Last Airbender comic book series. If you haven't seen the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon from Nickelodeon, don't buy this until you've seen all of it and read the other two books in the series. There is a lot of back story you need to understand in order to read this. The art in this book is SIMPLY STUNNING. I am not a comic-book reader, but my husband is, so we have quite a few. Compared to other comic books I've seen, the printing inside this book is so high-quality that the price I purchased this for (about $25US) felt like a steal. The colors are vibrant, the pictures are clear and the binding is impeccable. There are storyboard-style sketches in the back of the book so you can see what drawing any character looks like from beginning to end and understand why they changed the final drawings the way they did. These feel like a true collectors item and would look fantastic on anybody's bookshelf. I purchased this book because my husband brought back the first in this installment from Emerald City Comiccon and I LOVED IT. I had to have the next books, and I was not disappointed when I got them from desertcart. The commentary from the makers of the series and graphic novels is featured on the margins of the pages. It's fun and helpful in understanding the authors' motivations for art style and storyline creation. These books tell the continuing story so believably, and grow the characters in ways you can understand and FEEL. For instance, you can FEEL Toph's emotions just as much as she can. Yes, I know she's not real, but come on! She COULD BE from the way they write these books. I found my jaw dropping to the floor several times, and I found myself in tears on more than one occasion. ...Rumor is that Nickelodeon and Dark Horse are doing a final comic book to tie together The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. This is supposed to happen at the end of 2015. I'm DYING to see what happens... and hoping it will be available by Christmas. Review: Beautifully drawn, a great plot and character development consistent ... - Beautifully drawn, a great plot and character development consistent with the show. 'The Rift' is the best of the Avatar comics so far, in my opinion; Gene Luen Yang gets more and more comfortable with writing these characters with each new installment. If you are a fan of Toph especially and want to see more of how her life develops after the show, you should check out this comic. But the best surprise in here is a fantastic and fascinating back story featuring an avatar who has previously been something of an enigma: Avatar Yangchen. Yangchen's story alone (and the absolutely beautiful artwork that goes with it) makes this comic worth checking out. The hard cover edition is really beautiful, with large pages to show off the artwork to its full advantage. Admittedly, anyone who's not already familiar with the show and its lore probably won't be able to jump in here without being pretty confused, and most of the best parts of the plot rely on knowing back story and characterization from the show, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just starting to get in to the universe or only familiar with it from "Legend of Korra." But for big dedicated Avatar nerds, I would highly recommend it.

Continuations of one of the top animated series of all time
I fell in love with the series when I first aired on Nickelodeon 15 years ago and I have pretty much watched the series at least once a year since it’s completion. Definitely one of the best animated series of all time. The comics are a wonderful continuation of that amazing childhood memory that answer any of the questions left open at the end. Zuko’s mother? Their relationships? The library editions of the comics are very nice, heavy books with beautiful images, author notes and concept drawings. I recommend them to any fan of the series new or old!

If You Love Toph, You'll Love The Rift
Avatar is so memorable because the characters are so relatable, real, and well written and this graphic novel series not only captures those qualities beautifully, it expands on them in engaging, organic ways. That being said Toph shines here like no other point in the series. You get to learn about her family and history, you get to see the development of her metal-bending school, and you get to see her show off why she is the greatest Earth-bender of all-time! The other characters are plenty interesting as well, but this is the Toph show and it's fantastic.

Get it.
If you’re deciding between the paper backs and the hardcovers, the Hardcovers are definitely worth the extra couple bucks. Much better quality and more durable. Also the shipping was ridiculously fast (I ordered this at 2am and got it at 5pm lol) Very good quality. Still had plastic around it so you know it’s brand new. Haven’t read it yet but I’ve heard this one has an epic avatar state scene so yee yee.

Perfect and great book!
Came quickly and in a box that was well protected. Perfect condition, it has never been opened it seemed. The book was great great for all ages. The authors and artists comment on the side of the page. The art work is great, team avatar appears a little bit older so it took a little to get used to . This book takes place right after "The Promise".
