Rockler Miter Trimmer for Precision Picture Framing & Laminate Cuts

Had been looking for a trimmer and was skeptical that I would find one that would meet expectations of the old Lion trimmer. I was pleasantly surprised. Clean, crisp miters. The trimmer is capable of extremely fine cuts. Fairly accurate miters were achievable out of the box. Some minor tweaking of adjustments allowed me to get miters that met expectations. I've used this for picture frames as well as door casings with great success.

Was somewhat a challenge to get the setup just right-might still need to tweak. Well built-solid piece of equipment. Have always wanted this tool. I make a lot of picture frames and always struggled with sloppy miter joints-this will definitely take care of this issue.

Works great. Very sharp. Minus one star for being slightly awkward to adjust angle stops, but once adjusted it is very accurate and consistent. Making the first cut with a miter saw about 1/32" to 1/16" over size and then trimming with this tool worked well for making picture frames. Trimming more than 1/32" with some hardwoods requires a fair amount of force, which is normal. Trimming more than 1/16" is not recommended. This tool seems to be exactly the same as many other brands made in China, which should make it easy to find parts.

I've had this trimmer on my tool wish list for a long time, but haven't had a real need for it. I finally had a need of a couple of picture frames for myself and a request from family, too. This trimmer cut very accurate 45 degree corners and really upped my picture frame game! Well worth the price, if you have a need for precise 45 degree miters. The one tip I would share is that the harder the material is, the narrower the shaving of the cut should be.

This Rockler miter trimmer is exactly what I needed in my shop. It is a very well made quality tool. Once I dialed in the positioning for 45 and 90 degrees this thing is dead perfect. I will never have any mores issues obtaining a perfect miter joint on any of my projects.

I used this miter trimmer to make a frame for a 40 x 27 poster using poplar strips. The trimmer does exactly what it is supposed to do, make smooth, accurate cuts. No honing was necessary prior to making the cuts; the blades come very sharp from the factory. I took off one star because set up is very fiddly. The 45 degree stops are spring loaded and so do not provide a positive stop. The inscribed 45 degree lines are off by a couple of degrees, making them useless. The only way to set the angles accurately is to use an appropriate miter square. I took off another star because the guard does not adequately shield the blade. There is a 3/16 inch gap between the blade and the guard, leaving the edge exposed. Because the trimmer shipped with the blade in the extreme right hand position, I slit my finger removing the plastic wrap. The blade pulls the wood forward during a cut, which ruins the angle. Make sure to hold the wood firmly against both the fence and the base while cutting. The instructions that accompany the trimmer are absurdly brief. Better instructions would have definitely flattened the learning curve. Before making your first frame, practice with scrap wood.

This makes miter cuts for frames so much easier to get perfect. It is important to set the angles before you start but then it is easy to make them right every time.
