consider the ages of the people you are gifting this to
Grandchildren are spread apart in ages. This worked better for the older ones and not for the younger ones. I would take that in consideration before you purchase. I do not remember the recommended ages. I guess I (along with all grandparents) think our grandchildren are all the smartest children on the planet. Ha!

Good game for smaller kids.
This is a cute little family game. The gameplay is pretty simplistic, and there isn't a lot of strategy, but it's fun. It would probably be best for a family with younger children - I think 4-7 might be the ideal range. The way it works is that there are a certain number of pieces with hidden ingredients that are along paths to a cauldron, and there's a wizard hat that blocks those paths. These pieces are the ones that move. You are trying to get the right ingredients into the cauldron before the wizard blocks all the paths. To do this, you roll two dice to determine which ingredient you can move, or if you look at the hidden ingredients, move the wizard, or block a path. The strategy is in deciding which ingredients to move and look at, and there's a memory component in remembering which ingredient is where. It's very simple for adults and older kids, but a group of smaller children would probably love it. It's a bit similar to Trouble.

Great cooperative game
I have given this to three different families and they all have loved it! They said it's a great way to help show kids how working cooperatively is the way to achieve a goal. They said the game is fun and keeps kids attention without having competition against each other. Everyone wins or everyone loses. Highly recommend this game. The children were ages 6 and up.

The Perfect Cooperative Game for Kids!
I've played a lot of children's cooperative games and often I find that they are cooperative only in spirit. They have a rule that everyone has to win or no one wins, and while guided by an adult you can continue to share that point. Unfortunately, a young child who is falling behind the group can still feel like they are loosing even when there is no individual loss written into the rules.Cauldron Quest is not like that at all. This is a truly cooperative game where everyone is working toward a shared goal and there is no player token to track if one child is doing better than another. It is interesting enough that my children have played it with a wide variety of the adults in their life to everyone's enjoyment and simple enough that they can set it up and play a game on their own. They have even taught friends how to play. I love this game!

Easy and fun co-op game
I got this to play with my grandkids who ranged from 7 to 13. Worked well for those ages, and us adults too. It was fun and easy to learn how to play. Great co-op game with a fun theme. It was great to see the youngest working on a strategy so we could all win. We played it several times, the replay factor was good as it changes every time you play. Well worth the price.
