Stomping Grounds
This DVD contains the full 2019 Stomping Grounds event on a single disc. There are no bonus features as the event runs for over three hours.Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans - The first match was for Becky's RAW Women's Championship. It was a good back and forth opening match with some entertaining action. There were a couple of awkward moments as Lacey seems to be either green or a bit clumsy but it wasn't enough to hurt the match. It had some good near-falls and built to a strong and decisive finish. It was given a good amount of time and overall it was an enjoyable way to start the show.Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. The New Day(Big E and Xavier Woods) - This was a fantastic match. Owens took out Big E right away and then he and Zayn did a great job of isolating Woods. The psychology was really good with both teams working together really well. There were a load of great near-falls and last second saves keeping the action exciting. The action was entertaining from start to finish and it had a good, satisfying finish. This was the best match of the show in my opinion, some great action.Samoa Joe vs. Ricochet - This was for Joe's United States Championship. It was another great back and forth match. Joe used his power to dominate while Ricochet used his speed advantage to keep the match competitive. The action was all good with plenty of counters and a fast pace. There were some really good near-falls as the match went on. It had a good amount of time and built really well to it's strong and decisive finish. A great speed vs. power match-up.Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery - This was for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships and was Heavy Machinery's first major match on the main roster. It was a good back and forth match and it showed that Heavy Machinery can be more than just a comedy tag team. The action was all good, apart from Otis 'Hulking up' which I'm not a fan of, with both teams working together well. There were some good near-falls and the match was given a good amount of time and built to a good, satisfying finish. It kept up a good pace and built the match excitement well. Another really good match.Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss - This was for the Smackdown Women's Championship. This was another very good back and forth match. It was given a good amount of time and the action was constantly entertaining. Nikki Cross was on the outside and she did affect the match but not enough to hurt it. There were some good counters and the match had a good pace. It built to a decisive finish. It was much better than the last time they feuded and Bayley had to pretend to be scared of a kendo stick.Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre - This was a rematch from Wrestlemania. It was another really good match. They started out brawling in the aisle-way, it slowed down a bit in the middle but that wasn't a bad thing. Shane McMahon was on the outside and provided a distraction a few times but that added to the excitement of the match so I didn't mind it. There were some good counters and near-falls as the match went on and they had a strong and decisive finish. The action was on the same level as their Wrestlemania match, the Shane McMahon involvement adds excitement but some people don't like that kind of thing so if you do you'll probably prefer this match, if not the Wrestlemania match will be better.Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler - This was a Steel Cage match for the WWE Championship. It was a pretty good match. The action was fast paced and competitive. There were plenty of counters and they used the cage well. They had some good psychology as Ziggler tries to hurt Kofi's leg to prevent him from being able to climb the cage. It had a creative finish which I enjoyed and overall I thought it was a good match. I've heard people criticise this match and say it's not very good but I don't see it.Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin - This was for the Universal Championship and Baron Corbin got to pick the special guest referee. I liked his choice of Lacey Evans as it was someone who had a problem with Seth's girlfriend but also someone Seth wouldn't get physical with as he'd been threatening. Lacey changed the match as it went on to get rid of disqualifications and count-outs. The match was alright but it wasn't anything special, especially for a main event. It had enjoyable moments and the referee stipulation did make things more interesting but at the end of the day it's still Baron Corbin in a main event so it's only going to be so good. I enjoyed the finish and the action wasn't bad. It had some entertaining moments but felt more like a RAW main event than a pay-per-view one.Stomping Grounds wasn't built up to be very special. It felt very unimportant so I wasn't expecting much but a lot of the matches over-delivered. It was a very fun event with plenty of strong matches. Samoa Joe vs. Ricochet, New Day vs. Owens and Zayn, and Bryan and Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery were all really strong matches. Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans, Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre and Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley were very good too. The main event was probably the weakest match on the show but even that had some enjoyable moments. It's a show with a strong first two and a half hours and a decent final half hour which overall made a pretty fun show.
