I picked up How to Draw Animals: Easy Step-by-Step Drawings! thinking I had some hidden artistic talent waiting to be discovered. I was wrong, but this book got me a lot closer. The instructions are simple, easy to follow, and somehow managed to turn my usual collection of misshapen potatoes into animals that were at least recognizable by species. By the end, my cat looked like a cat, my dog looked like a dog, and only one rabbit was mistaken for a loaf of bread. If you've ever wanted to draw animals without feeling like you need four years of art school and a beret, this is a fun place to start.

This is a gem for the price. I'm very happy with my purchase. I bought this for a six-year-old who likes to draw. Clear steps for them to move from simple shapes to a finished drawing. Thirty animals for them to draw so there is a lot of creative juice for them to use to make their own scenes. The author has included a practice page next to each lesson, but it is not really necessary as the kids will want their own drawing paper to use. But I am not an artist; maybe you would want the practice page for your child.Also, these pictures are simple, perhaps cartoonish. If you are searching for a higher level and more realistic shapes, this isn't the book for you. It was perfect for my young grandson just learning to draw.
