Better Than the Cheaper Competitor Cards
First I looked on the internet for reviews of different cards, and Allegro was at the top of the list. Do they require drivers or electrical hookups in the computer, etc, in order to function properly--no, Allegro doesn't. The important question for me is: can you really use 4 USB ports at one time with this card? Based on my experience (I have purchased 3 USB C 2 port cards, and 1 USB 4 port 3.2 card), the Allegro card is plug and play and doesn't require a driver or electrical cable hookup. And the card works properly: In one of my computers (HP z2 G9) I have two cards installed: USB C and USB 3.2 and there is no problem. Be careful of buying the cheapo cards!

Previous USB Card dropped connections to external drives on big file transfers, this doesn't
Working GREAT without incident on a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 tower modified for heavy 3D workflows with no dropped connections so far for two external drives. If anything changes, I will file a follow-up report

Plug & play for Mac Pro 2010 5,1
It works! Excellent throughput. (Tested with Blackmagic Designs disk tester on all my devices.) Mac OS High Sierra. I had a USB 3.0 4-port that fail on me (Inateck) just like a previous reviewer. The ports stopped working AND creating some conflicts on native USB ports such as external devices (SD, portable drives, etc.) preventing them to mount. Extremely happy and relieve that Sonnet was easy to install. It fit snug in the PCI-E slots and the ports line are aligned better than the former card. I was able to fully plug in Lexar UHS-II SD card reader (~250MB/s). I put it in slot 4 to avoid blocking the GPU fan, and it did not interfere with the full size hard disk mounted to drive sled above it. I can’t attest for the durability at this point. Installed yesterday.

Fast, reliable
I installed my Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 card in a 2009 Mac Pro, running El Capitan. No third party drivers were needed. The card is working flawlessly, unlike two other brands cards I'd tried on earlier releases of OS X. Of course, I tested it for speed ... (best viewed with fixed width font) Write Read Drive Interface Drive model, capacity ----- ---- ------- --------- ----------------------- 1650 1922 ramdisk 250 265 (root) SATA 3Gb Crucial_CT960M500SSD1, 1 TB Note: SSD 150 144 backups SATA 3Gb Hitachi HDS724040ALE640, 4 TB 120 118 tm SATA 3Gb Western Digital WDC WD30EZRX-00SPEB0, 3 TB 31 33 wd5 USB 2.0 Western Digital WD My Book 1230, 5 TB 150 150 wd5 USB 3.0 Western Digital WD My Book 1230, 5 TB The interesting two lines are the last two … it’s the same disk drive, tested first via USB 2.0, and then via USB 3.0. In short, I can now write to my external USB 3.0 drive at SATA-like speeds!

Works except when rebooting
I may have been too harsh in my original review but the quirk this card has makes it frustrating to use. I does work great on both Linux and Windows. However, any time I reboot, either to the same OS or a different one, the card stops working. I have to fully shut down and start again for it work. I have updated my BIOS since getting this card so I'm not sure what could be causing this behavior. Original review Slotted the card and plugged in a spare keyboard. Worked great on Linux. Windows didn't detect and install a driver so I had to go to the website. Install failed the first time but worked on the second. Booted back to Linux and the card stopped working. Booted back to Windows and it still didn't work.

Perfect
I wanted USB 3.0 connectivity for my Mac Pro (Mid 2012). As I have two ATI graphics cards in my computer, I was concerned that an additional PCI card would not fit inside it. But, as this card was not that expensive, I decided I'd try it and see. The card arrived well packaged and quickly after my order and was very simple to install. It fit snuggly and easily into the last available PCI slot without a problem. The card required no additional drivers or software and was recognized by OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 upon reboot without issue. Currently I have only my iPhone plugged into it. I wish I would have purchased it a while back as installation was a cinch and it appears to be working without any glitches. It just works. True plug and play... just like things should be on a Mac.

5 stars for Allegro USB 3.0 4 Port PCIe card = works with 2012 Mac Pro Tower!
I purchased this for the purpose of getting better speeds with my 2012 Mac Tower Pro. The card was delivered on 3 Aug 2018 = fast shipping. The instructions were simple; called to insert the board into a PCIE slot which I did. Started up my Mac Tower and didn't even need to download drivers. Hooked my Sony HDR-CX580 to download some pic and video. A lot faster than the 2.0 USB on the tower. Great product, easy to install, easy to use and so far I give it 5 stars. See pictures for details. BTW I am running macOS High Sierra ver. 10.13.6, 2 x 3.46 MHz 6 core Intel Zeon, 64GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory, with ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. Thanks Sonnet for a great plug and play USB card.

Easy to add USB3
Installed this very easily into my 2009 Mac Pro six core Tower. I have a lot of data to archive and USB2 just isn't fast enough and the USB3 SSDs I have been using din't seem to like USB2 on the Mac at all and occasionally wouldn't boot, but that problem has gone . The addition of of the Sonnet card it has made backing up from mechanical hard drives to solid state drives much faster . Seems to work a lot faster backing up from a USB3 drive dock to a USB 3 storage device than from the internal drives . It was painless to install and worked straight away on startup

Recomendable. Equipo: Mac pro 5.1, mac os sierra

Sonnet Technologies USB3-4PM-E - Scheda PCIe "Allegro", a 4 porte USB 3.0
