So far - pretty good.
I purchased this document scanner for my law office because Microsoft upgraded my computer to Windows 10 over a weekend when I wasn't around to reject it. My Xerox Documate scanner would no longer work, and no driver updates were going to be issued. I have had The Brother for a few weeks, and am relatively happy with it. It's seems a bit slower and noisier than my Documate, but not enough to be a problem. One irritation is that it has a feature that will detect more than one page being drawn through the feeder at the same time, which is good. What is a problem is that it is too sensitive. If it detects what it considers to be more than one sheet, it stops scanning. I have had to stop and restart jobs when I tried to scan a regular envelope or a document with a small sticker with a recording number on it. Maybe there is a setting which will make that less sensitive. I haven't had a chance to look.

Great price for a decent product!
I bought this replacing a Fujitsu S1500 scanner. I tried another Fujitsu scanner but it went dead after about a week. They just don't make them like they used to and Fujitsu is almost double the price of this Brother scanner. So far it's working fine. The only drawback I see so far is that the Fujitsu could be set to automatically scan both sides of the paper where this Brother scanner you have to turn the pages over and scan the other side. Even then it puts the pages in correct order so it's not that bad. Especially factoring in the savings.I use this scanner in a small business office doing scanning of business items at my desk.So far I'm happy... I'll try to remember to update this post after a month or so.

I Would Buy It Again
I use this product every day at my office. I have had five other scanners over the last six years (four stopped working - other manufacturers) and I purchased this one because I love my smaller Brother scanner, it just didn't handle the larger documents. So, I took that one home and it is still working well. I needed something that would duplex, work with different size paper, was fast and didn't jam every two minutes and I wanted something that was affordable. It is well made and not too big. I needed something that would handle scanning large documents but wouldn't take up too much space on my desk. The documents I scan are usually between 50 and 200 pages. It doesn't hold that many pages, but I can easily break the document up and still feed sections in without jamming, which is next to impossible with most scanners. I also love the fact that it deletes the pages that are blank. It The installation was extremely easy and haven't had any glitches with Windows 10. The scan quality is good and the machine is super fast. Easy to switch from photos to pdf. I was able to scan over 200 family photos in minutes with good enough quality to have reprinted. I was then able to give them (on a thumb drive) to family members and they had the front and back of each photo, so they were able to tell when they were taken and who was in them. I am happy with my purchase and if I ever needed another scanner, I would buy this one again.

The negatives outweigh the positives.
I use Windows 10 64-bit, and I downloaded all the software, including the update patch, directly from the website, because the included disc does not list Windows 10 support. YMMV.I bought this scanner to use for projects that I complete for work, involving scanning printed public records from various courthouses. This means that I have documents raging from 1 to several hundred pages, and it scans quickly, and is set up such that it will easily allow you to "batch" documents larger than the ADF can accept in one go: you put the documents in face down, and it scans from the bottom, so you can add more pages to the feeder mid-scan and it doesn't throw the machine off. It has never jammed on me. The output tray is well-designed and will hold a lot of paper without spilling it all over your desk. Those are the positives. The negative is the software and its implementation. I need to name each document something completely different, so although it will let you set a file naming convention (like MyScan###.pdf, where each scanned file has a sequentially higher number in the name), there is no setting that I can find where it will just pop up a save window and let me tell it where to save the file, and with what name. This means, if I have a batch of documents to scan, I have to go into the default folder, open each document to see what it is, and rename it. Sure, that's maybe 15-30 seconds, but if you have hundreds of documents, it adds up.The second problem is that, while it's processing your scan for deskew, auto-rotation, etc., the scanner is unavailable to scan more documents. When you've fed 100 pages through, it needs several minutes to think about what it scanned, so I need to go get a cup of coffee or something, because I can't move on to the next document until it's done. The third problem is that if you use the "auto" setting to let the scanner choose your page size, it gets the size wrong, at least for me. I have legal-size documents, but unless I specify that size, it cuts off the bottom of the page and gives me letter-size scans.Fourth, it seems to lose connection from the scanner to the computer using the supplied cord. When you choose your settings, the software seems to have to communicate those choices to the scanner, and I get a pop-up asking me to reconnect the scanner, even when the scanner is connected. And finally, although there is a button on the front of the machine to initiate your scan, complete with a flashing light to let you know it's working, a long time passes between the press of the button and the start of the scan. So my take is that, if you have to occasionally scan larger documents, or if you scan lots of documents with number-order names, or if you're very patient with the machine, it's okay. But for my purposes, it's not a fit, and it's going back.

Disappointed in this particular scanner
I have always considered Brother products top-notch. That is why I chose this refurbished scanner as a lower cost alternative to the Fujitsu 1500. I was extremely disappointed by the performance. There was always at least a 45 sec delay after pressing the Scan to PC button before the scan actually started. Many times it would not start at all and I had to troubleshoot. The machine kept losing its USB connection. Feeding was accurate - no misfeeds with a stack of 22 sheets, so that's a positive. Altogether a lack of productivity so I returned the machine.
