Oster makes a very reliable blender...used to turn the brand into a verb: Osterizing
I dropped the pitcher of my original Osterizer and it cracked...not a big loss since it was a wedding shower gift in 1968. Seriously, it had been through a lot! This one has a glass pitcher and is a little easier to take apart and clean. My only complaint is that it's much heavier. It's not a deal breaker, but when pouring crepe batter with one hand and swirling my pan with the other, it I notice the weight.I like that it has twice the settings of my original so I can really adjust the speed, it's quieter and it comes apart better to make it very easy to clean. I'm sure I'll use it just as much as my old one so it should out last me!

Powerful Blender
I blend all kinds of stuff in this blender. I add nuts to smoothies - whole almonds, walnuts, etc, and there are no pieces of nuts in my smoothie. This blender is powerful. Great for my needs!

Great LEAD FREE Blender Option!
Amazing, LEAD FREE Borosilicate glass Blender. I bought this specific blender because it has been tested and is LEAD FREE unlike most products. It works great, its smaller in size so its great for saving storage and counter space and it does its job.

Oster blender
Great blender, I bought it about two years ago and I have never had a problem. Good power, well built, does not make much noise, will buy another if the need arise.

Small But Powerful
I purchased this blender just for making salsas and Mexican sauces. I love it!It’s the right size and grinds cooked or raw peppers, garlic, and roughly cut onions with great ease.So far I have blended both cooked and raw jalapeños, Serrano peppers, roughly cut onions, and garlic cloves; salsas came out perfectly blended. I filled the carafe with the several jalapeños and Serrano peppers, two garlic cloves, and half a bunch of fresh cilantro to make a salsa and I ended up with a 16 ounces of salsa; Perfect for small quantities and my 16 ounce mason jars.Today, I blended 10 boiled Chili Ancho peppers and 6 boiled Guajillo peppers with 2 cups of hot tap water for Chili Colorado with no problem. It filled up to 4 to 5 cups. Its 5 cup carafe makes clean up very easy and the thick glass is strong. The blade is very sharp. Be careful. This blender is small but the motor is powerful.Mexican cooking made much easier.

Inexpensive . . . And It Shows
We purchased this blender last May for my wife to use with her twice-daily protein shakes. She must mix them up with some special medication she needs to take. It thus gets very regular use. This past February, a little more than 8 months after purchasing, the black plastic collar that screws onto the base of the glass jar to retain the blade unit developed a crack all around, rendering the blender unusable. The manufacturer has embossed this collar with a legend stating "dishwasher safe" but evidently this is not true.I am now trying to figure out whether I can get a replacement of this fragile collar from an authorized service center. In the meantime, because my wife's medical needs can't wait, I went out and bought the 12-speed version of this blender from a local electronics superstore, for about the same price I paid for this 16-speed one. While it was working, this blender seemed to do the job. We did notice the ozone smell that others have mentioned when we first started using it, but that seems to have gone away now. The blades, which are quite sharp, do a good job on ice. If it weren't for the fragile nature of the black plastic collar that screws on the bottom of the jar, we would give it a much better rating. Although I notice that the price has gone up about 10% since we bought our unit last year, it's still not a bad deal for the money. Just be very careful with that black plastic piece -- and consider hand-washing it instead of using he dishwasher.UPDATE: I have downgraded my rating of this unit from three stars to two, after making the 56-mile round trip to the nearest authorized service center, which is apparently the only route to obtaining warranty service on this unit.I had to bring the entire blender in. Of course, the center did not have the replacement part. The proprietor is Asian and spoke only halting English. He wrote out a receipt form that stated "Model 6800" even though this unit is model 6812. I could not persuade him to correct this entry, even though I'm convinced I will get the wrong part as a result. What really puts the icing on the cake, though, is that he said it will be 4 to 6 weeks to get anything from Oster/Sunbeam. He predicts that the company may just send me a new blender. That would be fine, but 4 to 6 weeks is an awfully long time to wait. And I am certain that I will receive the wrong replacement unit because of this guy's sloppiness in logging this one in as a "6800" rather than a "6812."No matter how well the blender works when it works, this kind of non-service service makes the unit far less valuable. Having to drive 56 miles (in metro Los Angeles) and then having to wait 4 to 6 weeks for resolution simply isn't up to par in my view.In sum, let the buyer beware.SECOND UPDATE: Since posting the last update, Oster rode to the rescue by mailing me a replacement plastic collar at no charge. This corrects the problem, and so far the replacement collar has held up. So I have increased my rating of this unit.As a passing note, this 16-speed unit seems much nicer than the replacement 12-speed unit that I bought in a big-box electronics store, as noted above. Although they look very similar, the configuration of the glass jar on the 12-speed model is not as robust in its fit on the motor base. This 16-speed unit is a better bet.
