A**.
Not many questions on each page.
For kids who are overwhelmed by lots of questions on a page, this is a great book.

Minimal application practice.
I am disappointed with this workbook. My main concern is that It has only 3-4 pages of story problems out of 118 pages of practice items, although international testing reveals that US student are consistently weak in math application versus computation (or, US students perform poorly at solving story problems according to international PISA testing). Once a learner has mastered computation (for example, adding and subtracting of 3-digit numbers with regrouping), endless computation practice should be substituted with substantial practice in solving story problems. I am amazed that Sylvan does not recognize this significant issue. I will still use the workbook, but it could be much improved.

Back to Basics
If you value the deliberate practice model of learning, you will love the Sylvan workbooks. This is not a "drill to kill' instruction method. Instead, Sylvan uses a variety of approaches to present the same mathematical ideas. It's repetition without redundancy. For instance, multiplication is explained by grouping of similar items within sets on one page (3 pretzels each in four different lunch boxes equals how many pretzels?), followed by the number line skip counting on another page (counting by 2s or 3s) and the traditional multiplication table on yet another page. It's the same idea - multiplication - presented several different ways to ensure comprehensive understanding of factors and products. All pages are in full color with clear, engaging graphics and easy-to-read and follow instructions. As always, each Sylvan book allows plenty of space between problems to compute answers. There are only 118 pages to this Basic book. But it covers all the major areas such as regrouping, multiplication, division (particularly well done in this workbook), fractions, weights, measuring, volume and shapes. When your child completes this book they will be ready forĀ Third Grade Super Math Success (Sylvan Super Workbooks) (Math Super Workbooks) . Everything my NYS 3rd grader needed!
Highly recommended math workbook for 3rd grader! I was skeptical because there weren't any photos of the inside of the book. (Sorry I can't figure out how to add any either) I couldn't be happier! The pages are all in color and printed on good quality paper. The content was exactly what I was looking for for my 3rd grader coming off common core in a NYS public school during quarantine.30 chapters, 118 pages, along with answer key in the back include:Place ValueAddition & SubtractionMultiplication & DivisionFractionsMeasurementsGeometryTime & Money
